SEO for Home Builders

Hey guys,

I'm and SEO manager at an agency servicing home builders, and have a bit of an issue. We have a number of available hours to work on SEO for our clients, but only off-site optimization.

So far we've done directory submits and made our recommendations for on site optimization, as far as we can take it.

Any other feasible ways to build search engine presence for real estate and home builder companies? Social media seems unlikely because of the industry, though article marketing seems to have some possibility.

    I assume your directory submits were to third party directories, not your own.

    I work in the building trade in South Africa and run my own building related directories targeting small niche markets, i.e. kitchens, bathroom, flooring, roofing, etc. as well as a general contractors directory and while these directories are open to other businesses there primary purpose is to service my members.

    These get good results for my clients in direct traffic as well as lead generation.

      Those markets are usually very localized. People will look at local resources first. Be sure to locate every local directory you can find and add listings for each and every service.

      Look for geographically targeted sites and post comments where you can get a link in your profile. Take care not to spam them. Look for forums that are focused on your market and make useful posts and include your clients site in your signature and profile.

      The biggest and most obvious should be article marketing. Also, write some press releases and white papers and post them in all the appropriate places.
  • The homebuilder's vendors and suppliers would be a good place to get links from.

    • We have had great success with social media optimization for home builders. Effective tactics include blogging, online public relations, video syndication and much more. There are lots of social networking sites where you can create pages for builders including FaceBook and MySpace.
