Google back link search

When I type link: mywebsite url into Google search I get search documents not available.

When I use Yahoo search I get some back links listed.

Do I need to do something else to search for for google back links?

  • Google shows a tiny percentage of the backlinks they know about. Yahoo shows more, but neither will show you all of them. There is no way I know of to get an exhaustive list. You can look at your referrer logs and then crawl the sites but this will not show links that have not been clicked.

  • If you verify your site in Googles webmaster tools you'll be able to see quite a lot of the backlinks that Google knows about.

    That will give you a much clearer picture of your Google baclinks. Alternatively, as mentioned above, you can use Yahoo to gauge your backlinks.
  • one more thing, when you search backlinks in g, use
    link:yoursiteurl.com

    there is no space between the ":" and url. otherwise, the result is different.

  • If you're using Google, you'll find that inserting wildcard operators yields different results. So searching for:

    Code:
    link:mydomain.com
    yields different results than:

    Code:
    link:*.mydomain.com
    or

    Code:
    link:*.mydomain.com/*
    etc...

    • yeah, google is showing nothing, but Yahoo is showing my links. My site is pretty much brand new.
