SEO for small company

Hi guys,

I believe I have a specific question about SEO.
Facts about company:
- Low budget
- Outsourcing is not an option
- Nobody is 100% dedicated SEO/SEA employee (meaning, he/she is not 100% busy with online marketing)

For offpage seo you can do things like forum posting, social booking marketing etc... onpage is a lot about optimizing ofcourse.

When a company is this small.. What would lead to the biggest ROI when it comes to handling SEO/SEA (considering time that has to be put in + low budget)?

  • I'd immediately smack them to the head long enough that they completely forget everything about forum posting, social bookmarking and the associated silly busywork that some sell as back linking. If they have no budget, they can't throw money away to something that contributes nothing just because it's "DIY".

In my humble estimation the biggest move would be to teach them SEO copywriting basics, and how to use their CMS of choice effectively. Their CMS should handle the basics of on-page already.

    • Also, besides how to learn SEO copywriting, what do you mean with using CMS effectively?

  • If they're a local business, then you should be doing Local SEO which is an entirely different game. Off page is much easier, and on page is pretty easy, it's all about location relevance and industry relevance when it comes to local. Often times you can rank with very little effort.
