SEO vs. YouTube

I run a small and new YouTube support site. Is there any point in trying to compete for keywords that are dominated by YouTube videos?

  • What exactly is your website? Something like a directory with some Youtube videos? If it's your situation, I would try ranking for the keyword your site is about, not trying to compete with every youtube video!
  • No, my site is a Youtube tips site (http://youtubertips.com). While exploring keywords, I found some interesting niches that the top 10 results on Google are all youtube videos and a couple on non optimized sites. Can I hope to compete against a video if its weight comes from the YouTube domain and not necessarily the content.
  • For your information, Youtube is an authority website and is owned by Google. In my own understanding, when it comes to keyword competition with your own and a Youtube video, definitely it would be tough. If you try search for any keyword on Google, Youtube videos are always present in the first page. If you hope to compete, it may take you a lot of time to do that, but that might be impossible.

    Btw, your site looks great.
  • If the videos in search results are new and not so much views, the it can be done.
  • Why not? Your question makes me think you doubt you'll have any success with your website, so what's the point in having it?
It's gonna be extra-tough, but what do you have to loose by trying?

    • Trying is always good, but if those keywords are highly competitive, then it makes more sense to look for other youtube related keywords to focus on. This is my first experience with a site related to YouTube and couldn't really find any SEO information about competing with a individual video.

  • It depends.
Is your article a "how to" article?

  • See...I always have to be the bad guy. Why? Why do you people just fall over dead?

Listen, seriously. You are violating youtube TOS, which puts you in complete violation of google.

So funny for you to put,
    all rights reserved
    at the bottom...

    End of story? Sadly, um..........no.

    • Thank you Paul for taking the time to belittle me. Where there is a forum, there will always be forum trolls. I'll play along though.

Specifically, which section of the TOS am I violating?

What is wrong with adding all rights reserved?

What does "End of story? Sadly, um..........no." even mean?

Why are you worried about Youtube videos dominating Google SERPs?

    Your niche is Youtube.
  • Thanks for the advice. Some of you have given me some things to look into that were not really related to the question but helpful nonetheless.
  • Buddy, hope you are not trying to mess up with the Google's branded keywords. YouTube is an example if you will outrank this keyword you for sure will own a million $ SEO company.
  • I am not sure i even understand your question but why the heck are you worried about youtube videos ?. Google shows Youtube videos and reserves a spot for them, then there are websites and they have their own spot. Google considers some terms video only and only shows videos, you can try to outrank those videos with a website but i don't know if that is even possible, i don't think even wikipedia can rank for those unless it has a video embedded because they are video only terms.

You aren't going to violate any of Google or Youtube TOS unless you are acting as their support which i don't think you are or are you ?. You have adsense approved on the site so you are fine because Google checks their adsense approved sites from time to time for compliance and if you were breaking any TOS, you would have been told.

I find it funny you run a youtube tips and tricks site but don't know a thing about youtube but thats like 90% of the people here claiming to be seo gurus and knowing squat about seo. Anyway, good luck...i doubt you will go further with what you have planned though

    • Famous last words. You can put adsense on any site you please.
Google may or may not catch you. They can't possibly audit everything.

They do, however, rely on people to report things. I never do, so put
      that to bed.

But I do caution people all the friggin' time:
Don't ever show a site with adsense here. You are asking for trouble.

      Paul
