Is Setting Up International Targetting (G Webmaster) Is The Right Thing For Me?

Hi Warriors,

I would like to ask you some opinion regarding Google Webmaster International Targeting.

I setup my website for international targeting to my country.

I'm running a local website (in foreign language, not English) targeting for let say Keyword #1 (the keyword is in the language that I'm targeting)

In Google keyword planner, I run a keyword research for the Keyword #1:
If international search = 22K/mo, with roughly 5M search results
if in the country that I'm targetting = 2.2K/mo, with roughly 5M search results.

I have checked my website ranking for the keyword for both google.com and google.com.xx (xx referring to my country extension).

My website ranking is higher in google.com.xx (around page 2 or so), whereas none in google.com.

So, which one should I do right now? Should I disable the country targeting in the webmaster setting or just go on with the current setting?

Since I would get more traffics if I target for the international search compared to country searches. Or am I missing something here?

Hope to hear something about this. Please guide me.

Thanks in advance.

If the language (of your website) is spoken in multiple countries, you need international targeting.

If it is spoken in a specific country, then obviously you need to target that particular country only.

Even if you set international targeting in webmasters tool but if the indicators show that your website belongs to a specific territory (like domain name .com.xx or language) Google will show your website to that particular territory.
