MOZ toolbar PA issue

Hi, I know when web page has more PA page authority it will show first on google. but in the following example I googled the word "what is drop shipping" and I am using moz toolbar. but I am astonished why some pages with low PA are ranked higher than pages with higher PR. see the image below.


and here is another example. I googled the keyword "what to sell on ebay". result is very amazing. page with lower PA, DA and baclinks overcomes page with higher metrics.


could you please explain that to me. thanks.

  • That is not true. That is your problem. PA is highly inaccurate. There is no real correlation between PA and rankings.

    Also, PR has not been publicly updated in over 18 months. The data you are looking at for PR is ancient.

  • PA is NOT a metric that is used by Google in the ranking of a site! Where did you get the impression that it was?

    Ranking on first page of Google doesn't depend on PR factor. Google has very low value for PR. Ranking high on Google completely depends on quantity and quality of backlinks.

    • I have to disagree with you there. PR is the back bone of their algorithm. I've said it before many times and I'll say it again.

      Just because it's not updated publicly, does not mean it's not updated every day, all day long by Google.

      When you say, "Ranking high on Google completely depends on quantity and quality of backlinks." you are right, but the quality of those backlinks have to be measured against each other by search engines. PR is how Google has always done this and still does.

      When Google stopped updating it's PR publicly, people were desperate for an easy, one click way to measure the quality of a domain and in stepped Majestic, SEO Moz and Ahrefs. The problem is, their metrics are based on the number of backlinks and the number of IP's and sub nets they come from. There metrics are IN NO WAY an accurate measure of the domains quality compared to PR. You could write a pile of jibberish, build links to it and it would have good MOZ metrics.

      Of course, a websites toolbar PR 'might' be out of date, but you can confirm the accuracy of it in a couple of seconds by checking it's backlinks. I build PBN's for my clients all day long and I can tell you, I've never personally based the quality of a domain on them. As a matter of fact, low quality domains with thousands of low quality backlinks can have great metrics and expired domains with a potential PR of 5 will have poor metrics. Although the PR wont show up in the tool bar, the links exist and point to the domain to give it it's PR of 5, should it be updated.

      I've had to turn away clients in the past because they insist that the domains in their PBN have good Moz metrics, simply because I know they wont improve their sites rankings in Google and I'm not going to waste my time and their money building a PBN that will under perform.

    Look at their sales funnel, it's the only thing useful.
  • quicksprout does have some good articles but the article in question is old, a lot of things have changed with regards to google in a year so please ignore that article completely and listen to what Mike and others said in this thread.

    I believe he did but because he probably got paid handsomely for it and i doubt it was for link-building but another aspect of marketing. I honestly don't think techcrunch or amazon need any help with link-building or whatever is explained in the article in question.
