Why do you care if Alexa toolbar usage is low on your site? Do Alexa users matter to you for some reason?

I don't quite get what you're saying, but probably toolbar usage is down since you stopped visiting the site. Maybe the site also carries the mark of the beast, or something.

Alexa isn't the most accurate tool out there, lol... If there hasn't been anything on the site in a while then it would make sense traffic is down. If you just started building it back up a month ago then it hasn't really been long enough yet... I'd give it some more time and just keep adding more content. You'll start to notice some changes pretty soon I'd imagine..

Actually alexa can't show you the actual visitors based rank. It can count only the visitors who have alexa toolbar installed.

Anyway many of the visitors have no knowledge about alexa toolbar.

    How Alexa works!

For example if you are getting 10 , 20, 50 traffic in the starting months and if the traffic increase there onwards, your alexa will be good and increase gradually.
If your traffic goes down month on month ( 50, 40, 10 ) your alexa will go down.

So dont worry about Alexa ranking. Just concentrate on total number of visitors of your website and try to reduce your bounce rate.

What has Alexa rankings to do with Google "marking" your site ? What does that even mean ? being marked by google

If you really care about alexa ranking, just go with social media traffic or else you need not to worry about alexa ranking.

Just think about Page Authority (PA), Domain Authority (DA), Trust Factor (TF) and try to increase this - if you have good PA/DA and good number of traffic from search engine, then Alexa will go down automatically.

To be fair, it's not completely illogical to harvest Alexa users from the sites that seem to have a fair number of them. Probably pointless and likely aiming for the wrong thing, but not illogical per se.

I suggest you and a few others do not quit your day job.
      You are clueless.

Alexa does not even matter, but it sure gets drummed up
traffic from wannabes who think otherwise.

Nobody should give a rat's behind about alexa. Why?

#1 Alexa even itself admits after the few top sites it listed,
the rest of the list is a crapshoot, and no one should not make
      any judgements about it.

#2 Since we all have sites that are not on the top list, not a single
one of us should ever care.

#3 Alexa is a website and "data" gathering enterprise owned and
operated by amazon, yes THAT amazon, for reasons only to
funnel traffic to the rest of their online empire.

#4 Alexa is a made up ranking, getting webmasters to try and
up theirs for reasons that are completely bogus.

Get a grip on reality people.

Alexa is a program that will allow you to determine the traffic on your website - the specific number of people who are visiting such at a given time. Traffic is going to be monitored by the Alexa Toolbar, which should be installed by the sure for their web activities to be tracked.

Alexa could not exist without the participation of the Alexa Toolbar community. Each member of the community, in addition to getting a useful tool, gives back. By using the Firefox, Chrome and IE toolbars, every member contributes valuable information about the web, how it’s used, what’s important and what isn’t. Alexa returns this information to the community as Traffic Ranks, Related Links, and more.

Long way of saying Alexa info is based on people who have Alexa installed. Since most people do not, not very useful.

As it's been said many, many times.

And, from my experience: Alexa had one of my sites as getting 3600 visitors a month. In reality, it was getting 90.

At 90, my site would be one of the last. At 3600, it was pretty high up.

Besides, Alexa's ranking number is a comparison. What do you care that you're #595946 or 79797979? What matters is how many buying visitors you get (or, if you're running adsense, how many clickers you get).

Please do yourself and everyone else a favour and actually read one of the Alexa threads. There's always a comment that tells you what Alexa does, and why it's useless.

Alexa rank has nothing to do with high quality or relevant content.

Alexa is not important for anything. It's known to be very inaccurate. Unless you happen to have their paid version which is just another website analytics tool.

Alexa's numbers do not reflect specific number of people visiting your site. Their stats are interpolated from those users who happen use their toolbar. The less traffic you've got the more inaccurate they are, but even known sites such as Moz have reported that their Alexa stats do not match their actual traffic. In addition the toolbar isn't popular across the globe.

Actually, if you started a website all over again, you should probably check your Analytics, instead of Alexa. As you can see from the replies here (written by those who actually know a thing or two about how things work!), Alexa doesn't matter. Instead, you should concentrate of your Analytics (or whatever tool you use to verify your incoming traffic & backlinks &everything else).

Alexa in my book is not really important unless you plan on building a large authority website. The only thing that truly matters how much traffic you are getting and the conversion that you are generating from that traffic.

Alexa is more an ego boost to see where you rank with other websites. And that too me is not the purpose of SEO. In the circles of guys who are hitting it hard with SEO Alexa ranking is not even a topic of conversation.

Focus on the things that matter to your business and your bottom line.

    SILO Strucutre
    PBN
    Increasing Domain Authority
    Optimizing Visitor Conversion Rate

Where you rank in Alexa really does not matter.
