do article dates matter?

I understand that article submission dates may matter in that that the older they are the more worthy SEO sees them as.

Lets say I got a article website from a seller who premade articles.....it was 4 years ago in 2011.. Aging would matter to seo articles right??

But on the flip side of the coin, why would a searcher want to look for articles that are 4 years old; dont they rather want something up to date something 'fresh' like from 2015??

I for one would prefer something newer and up to date posts that were just recent?

Good point. I have seen quite a few people change the article date to make it look aged i think they mainly do it to get approved on adsense though not for seo.

Not exactly sure if I understood you right, but if you are talking about article marketing (or guest blogging), it's important when exactly you placed your article. Even though if you submitted it 4 years ago, you could even get hundreds of backlinks..

Exactly right, without a date some types of content is useless, because if you have no idea how old it is you don't know if you can trust it... click next site
(although sometimes you can look at the comments if there are any and get an idea)

On the other hand some content is timeless and does not need a date, because it never changes, this type of content usually sticks.

As for SEO, old, outdated content is not much use so it's not going attract any links, nor is worth promoting it for the same reason, unless its updated.

Some or most of the new stories comes from the old quality content and using it as a source to create interesting and engaging content for the users. But there are some people prefer old quality content for other purpose.

Maybe you are right and also as Technology is tremendously increasing i would suggest to update new articles as the days pass-by.

I think it's really going to depend on what kind of text is in the article. If the article is about VHS tapes then it's probably not going to hurt you, but probably isn't going to get many searches or drive very much traffic either. As long as the content is unique it should be fine, but if it's about older outdated topics then I wouldn't expect huge results from people searching.
