weird 301 issue

A few months back I moved a couple of pages on my site, I forgot to do a 301 redirect and as it's wordpress when you went to the page it automatically redirected to a similarly named but different page.
I've now created a 301 to go from the old page to the new one but when I do a google search for a term that I ranked position 3 on I now see the wordpress redirected page and not the correct 301 page.
Since then I've tried recreating the old page and leaving that live for a few weeks and then redirecting it again with a 301 to the correct page but for some reason Google is still ranking the wrong page.
Is there anyway I can get Google to recognise the correct page to rank?
