Does unique articles really help on SEO?

I noticed some sites their articles not unique yet manage to lure a lot visitors

wonder how they do that?

Reasons they harvest a lot of backlink to it?

  • Yeah, it happens because even if their articles are not unique they are able to target the right keywords and get ranked. But if you have truely unique content then you will get ranked eventually just you have to reach your target audience when they realize your potential the search engines will like your content too.
  • If a site has a long history and already gained authority over the years, they can still rank despite duplicate content. However for new sites, it's a lot harder to rank and gain traffic from organic results without unique content.

    • Yes, even those contents which are not unique rank good. It is that they are doing proper marketing, target the right audience and make that go viral.
  • They may have a lot of traffic, but IMO, if the articles are not good, their bounce rate is also extremely high! So, what's the point in having a ton of traffic if you can't gain anything from it?

  • Some of the reason is the article that they re-produce is coming from new and interesting story and deriving from its original source they are adding more features on the content to make it new and more interesting from the others.

    • Nope. Pagerank comes from backlinks.

      Uniqueness doesn't really mean that much. Even if you've got an article that's technically unique it might not get anywhere if more authoritative sites are writing on a topic that hits the same keywords.

    Of course they will get a lot of visitors along with high bounce rate, then they can't gain anything with that traffic.

    • High bounce rate isn't really good or bad in itself. You need to know other factors to analyze the situation. You could even get some sort of conversion without the visitor ever continuing further from the first page she landed on.
  • There are no rules here. Unique content is good to have, but if your only goal is a high page rank, it's not completely necessary. On the other hand, you can have the greatest content ever, but if you don't target your keywords properly, it doesn't mean much. You could generate some traffic but without any significant conversion rate.

  • Only with UNIQUE content and without so many backlinks you will also get a good ranking, but this will happen in a few months (or even years). Yes, this is the KING, but sometimes you could use spunned or content that you copy from another website (it's a good idea to place a link source!) and work on the keyword ranking!

      give a link, and if you don't copy, you will rank, cuz only unique will rank, but it's
      okay to spin or copy, but only do backlink and unique, bad content never ranks like
      unique...blah blah blah.

      You people can't possible repeat what you write with a straight face.

      Unique has nothing to do with ranking. Anyone that says it does, has no
      clue as to how the internet works.

      Every big site from ebay to amazon, from yahoo to google, from NYT to
      wikipedia uses the same content as a zillion other sites do.

      Oh yeah....wikipedia won't rank. Ditto with amazon.

      Here's another funny thing. Almost 100% of content on .gov sites, is
      open for copying. It is public domain. It's owned by the tax payers and
      they can use it as they please. So many sites do....but hey! Then
      you tell people to go out and get a .gov link!

      I happen to think like you and ask here before.
      Copy other content BUT place the link source.

      Many WR gave me a negative reply and comment google don't like this if you want your site rank higher.
  • Unique content that targets the same keywords should in theory rank higher in search engine rankings then if you copied someone else's content.... Google is getting better at recognizing content and evaluating it.


    Google takes a lot of factors into account when it ranks your site, thus I would say yes unique content helps SEO.
