I want to know which keywords should I promote for my site?
I want keywords that can bring some traffic to the site, but don't have too much competition so it won't be hard to promote.

Here is the site: http://www.convertforfree.com

I don't think so these keywords are easy to rank.
You can get good traffic by promoting these keywords, but need really hard work to get ranking.
Instead I prefer to promote your brand. If you able to do good branding then traffic is guaranteed.

What do you mean by promoting my brand?
Do you mean to promote the keyword Online Conversions?
Or convert the keyword Convert for Free?

Do the other keyword tools actually relate to searched for terms or are they just linking by association. Surely the Google Keyword tool must be the best for actual searched terms?

      Man, oh man.

Keyword research is serious business. Like, serious, serious. I spent two weeks of full-time work on keyword research for my last site. That's probably overkill for most people, but you need to spent a LOT of time hashing out the details.

If your site were an offline business, think of your keyword research as market research. It's the foundation of your entire site.

Nobody can give those keywords to you. If it were that easy, we'd just hash out some targeted content ourselves around those terms and pocket the money.

Dig in and see what you can come up with!

You have to start with a several draft of words or phrases, so that would serve as you initial keywords. Just think of yourself as a random user who's looking for something, that your website can provide. Then think what certain words would he/she typed in Google. After having your initial keywords, then you can use a keyword tools to help you out on keyword suggestions, volume and competition.

Usually, I search with - convert dollar into aud, convert kms into miles, convert killos into gms

You can also start targeting long tail keywords - how to convert [metric] into this [metric] for free, free online converter

LMAO, just a list of zero targeted root words.

That traffic is looking for 10,000 different niches which means unnecessary competition, high bounce rate & zero conversions for OP.

      Focus.

        Indeed

This is why I targeted long tail keywords like:

          That's fine.

Don't forget to track as much inbound referrer keywords as possible.

My point is, you might rank #7 for a keyword while the #1 SERP position gets 50% more traffic on a weak competition longtail keyword.

When you see analytic data showing traffic for a keyword, do some research to see If you can do better for the same keyword.

Keyword tools are only useful to get the ball rolling, once you start generating traffic dig into the traffic sources & optimize. Your own traffic is your best keyword source because the job is already half way done, it just needs tweaked to milk more traffic from the same source (keyword/s).

            This is wise advice

when using any keyword tools do not get hung up with the search results that Google gives you

it will only place in direct competition with the millions of other people doing the same

what I use these days to find keywords I can rank easily for is Domain Authority provided by moz

it is not the means to an end

it is the only tool out there at the moment that helps you understand what kind of authority websites are ranking on page one
