Inaccurate Adwords Display URL

Hi,

WHilst trying to set-up a content network campaign I'm having ads disapproved due to 'Inaccurate display url'...

Does the top level domain have to match the destination domain?

Example:
I own www.mydomain.com

I have created a subdomain for a particular offer 'fitness'

So my destination url and display url are the same - mydomain.com/fitness

I thought the above would be fine, but it appears not!

The only thing I can think of is that my top level domain mydomain.com has nothing to do with fitness - would this be the issue?

Thanks,
Simon

    I don´t think so.
I would add the typical "www." in front of both. Simply make them identical. I had similar problems in the past. Google wants to "assure" the user where he or she is going to.

Is "www" that much of a big Issue? I don't get it. Sometimes I think when I add www it does not work and sometimes it works when I don't use it. I didn't wanted to waste time thinking about it.

I read where you can get "slapped" for having one site that answers to both www (dot)domain(dot)com and just plain domain(dot)com. Google considers it duplicate content.

You mentioned that you created a sub-domain ((fitness(dot)domain(dot)com)) but then you displayed the link as a sub-directory ((domain (dot)com/fitness)). As you know, both URLs must be identical. So it looks like you need to make them both fitness(dot)domain(dot)com or
    www(dot)fitness(dot)domain(dot)com

Sorry about all the (dot)s. I haven't posted 15 times yet so WSO won't let me use periods.

      Hi Simon,

The only thing that has to match is the root domain of the display URL and your landing page domain. Sub domains do not create a problem. Your destination URL does not need to match, but if it redirects to another domain the final landing page must have the same root domain as your display URL.

Does your landing page redirect or are you using frames, iframe or domain masking? If not then the only other thing I can think of is that you have a typo in either your display URL or your destination URL.

P.S. If you redirect more than five hops it can create a problem. You can test this by clicking the headline of your ad from within the AdWords interface.

    > Yup I tried that...made them both identical i.e www.mydomain.com/fitness and all variations www.fitness.mydomain.com

    Either of those should work.

I don't know about dburk's five hops problem but it is something to check out. Using frames or masking would definitely cause this too.

I was going to tell you to check for a typo but dburk beat me to it. It's surprising how we sometimes don't spell our own domain, name or other familiar thing properly.

      Thanks guys...

      "Hi Simon,

The only thing that has to match is the root domain of the display URL and your landing page domain"

Yup - all match - does the root domain have to have something to do with the offer? At the moment it doesn't....it's generic and I have a few sub domains off it.

I am iframing the offer page on my sub domain if that might be the issue?

      Thanks.

    > Also, does the one display url rule come into play on the content network?

I don't see why it would not. So yes, it does come into play, even on the content network.
