My scenario and a request for advice on traffic

by Sumpter 3 replies
Hi guys,

I'm going to explain my scenario without giving away exact information for obvious reasons.

I have signed up with a company, and as part of the agreement I have been given my own consultant version of their website. This is in fact a complete replica of the original website.

Any sales through my site pay 25%.

I have since bought a good domain name to point to this and the site brings in a few sales here and there (I have no idea how they are finding it!).

I have no actual access to the site and therefore cannot use Google Analytics to see where the traffic is coming from.

My question is, in which ways can I drive more traffic to the site without being able to edit the content? From my research the only idea I have is to make guest posts on relevant blogs.

I look forward to your input!

Jim

It's a terrible traffic funnel but about all you can do is build your own self hosted domains/sites & SEO that way because a cloned affiliate site is going to get buried in Supplemental SERPs.

    Traffic flow:
    • Google SERP traffic > Your self hosted domain/s > Your affiliate site > checkout page

The more hoops/links you force traffic to jump through in your traffic funnel, the more traffic will drop off along the way.

The whole idea of doing what you doing is very shaky, and very risky from your point of view. If they pull the plug, you are up the creek without a paddle, you are basically working for someone else (with no employment protection rules)

If I were you I would build myself a site in the same market and send the traffic there first which has numerous advantages, not least of which is an asset you control.

But if you are determined to proceed as you are, generate the traffic manually, by that I mean when you stop generating so does their traffic, in other words get personal, one-to-one stuff.

Thanks for the great replies so far guys!

I should probably add this is a well known established brand in an industry with a pretty big mark-up (hence them paying 25%!)
