ok so heres a serious question for a change

suppose i had top notch expert onpage seo work done on a local business website, would there need to be any upkeep with regard to the onpage stuff? (other than like if they change a phone number or something).
i guess the question is whether onpage is a continuous process or once its done its done.
lets say we are talking about a website for a business that is just there so when people search for a plumber they find the site.

offpage i would assume is continuous forever theoretically?

    You're actually better off not touching a webpage/content after it starts ranking. Google ranks pages partially for what they find on that webpage. If you go adding/removing content then you stand a chance of skewing data Google used to rank your page.

    This (static pages vs dynamic pages) is easily proven on a typical blog that shows something like the last 10 blog post on the Home page, it has a tendency to make the Home page unstable & bounce around the SERPs.

    With that being said, you can still edit ranked pages, you just have to be careful editing text & internal links so you don't tank the page in the SERPs.

  • Yukon gave you the best answer possible without confusing things further, the fact is nothing stays the same in SEO ie. you rank NO 1 your competitor decides he ain't gong to let that slide too easily or all of the 9 others on that page feel the same way then what ?

    That is SEO it's not a scenario it's constant and the tougher the niche the tougher the guys on the first page are but your question was about changing the content on the ranking page and the answer is just what Yukon said only instead of changing the main page you build out new ages to support it even new domains hope that helps.

  • Once it start ranking in the SERP's its preferable not to change any elements of the page. But you can make change in the factors which are not really SEO dependent in this case you have told about a contact phone number so it does not matter.
