Half of my URL-s got deindexed due to plug-ins removal... Organic traffic dropped - what to do now ?

Hi folks.

Few days ago I decided to clean up some plug-ins from one of my WP websites. It turns out that I might have deleted some wrong ones.

Now my top pages are not indexed in Google Search results.

It probably happened so, because I used to have a plug-in for "remove category from URL" , which basically makes the URL without /category/ in it - i.e. - mysite.com/my_post rather mysite.com/category/my_post

And afther this I left the site running for one day and a half which resulted to URL pages showing 404 error.

I guess the google bot crawed them at that time and got them deindexed.

Yesterday I re-activated the plug-in so it is like it used to be, but pages still don't appear when type them in Google. (even if I type the URL it self).

I got #1,#2,#3 positions for some queries (it is for local language) and I got most of my traffic from there - now the traffic plumits down.

The posts are well optimized via SEO plug-in by Yoast (status is green).

Can I do something, perhaps in WMT to make them indexed again and get them ranked.

It may take some time to recognized by google. Look then new urls are exactly same as the old ones or not. I will recommend that you fetch each url to Google manually and give it some time. Republishing your posts in the social media channels may also speed up the process.

Google usually visits back every few days or so..It shouldn't take long for the update, but I would say at the very least a day or two..

That is to get indexed - but how about to get ranked back to my previous top positions ?

Btw do you know if paid advertising on Google adwords helps in ranking?

Paid advertising has nothing to do with rankings.

It might take a few days to get your rankings back. It might take a few weeks. Just depends how long it takes Google to figure out you cleaned up the mess and to incorporate that data into the algorithm.

Never change URLs of ranking pages unless you do a proper 301 redirect to the new URL. Lesson learned.

Yes I'll already know that - stacks on my experience. Thanks

You need to wait so Google bot can visit your website again.. But I am almost sure that one or two new articles can do the trick
