Just checking...

Just need to know something. I have a primary domain at my web hosting account and I've created a website which is going to be my main income earner.

I bought another domain which I added as an add-on domain. This second site is experimental and is Italian and I've noticed that sites in Google Italy rank very well with lots of spammy backlinks. So my question is if I blast lots of links at the add-on site will it affect my primary domains rankings or are they seen by Google as two separate websites? I don't want to do anything that may have a negative affect on my main site.

  • but....

    Good god man.

    Where am I?

Has basic logic and critical thinking left the earth?

...If you are concerned about spam hurting your primary domain, then don't link it to your spamfest.

  • No you misunderstood. I'm not linking the main site to the site with low quality backlinks, I was wondering if Google might see an add-on domain as a separate site or not and may penalise the primary domain which has no spammy backlinks since the domain with spammy backlinks is added onto it in Cpanel even though it's a separate domain.

    • Perhaps.... but I'm at a loss as to why you have a spammy junk domain? What value does it have that you hold so near and dear to your heart that you would consider it a part of your seo planning?
  • Its an experimental/throwaway domain for testing purposes, but since it's an addon domain I'm concerned that Google might be able to connect it to the main domain I'm using whitehat SEO on since it's not a separate domain within the account. I suppose it might be better to use another hosting account for test purposes if there is a possibility that Google sees them as the same.

    • Testing for what? Why test ANYTHING against a domain you are currently ranking or building?

Domains and hosting is so inexpensive --- setup your supersecretninja testing on an unrelated environment.
  • Yes that would be an option but it's just occured to me that I added the site to Google Webmaster Tools and if I delete it from GWT they will no doubt still have a record of it and if I were to add my main site they would still be able to link the two together and may deindex both.
