How many monthly searches should the targeted KW or KW phrases in a WP post be getting per month?

150?
500?
1k?
10k?

Obviously I don't want something too competitive. But I want to be able to rank in first page of Google in 2-3 months for the KW or KW phrase.

150 would be a good start. I don't think its predictable though it can the said number could still increase. The thing is, you can rank on the first page using your main keywords as much as possible on the subject as well as on the first two sentences of your article. See how it'll works for you.

It all depends on the commercial value of that keyword. If a keyword only has 150 searches per month, and 10% of these people are people with serious buying intent, and each sale price is $1000, that means you would most likely experience a lot of competition in such a keyword phrase SEO because people can spend up to $15000 just to get the top position for such a niche.

I would say to look at the commercial intent + searches and look at the competition on Google search engine (e.g. are they all commercial sites or just random personal blogs) before deciding which keyword to go for (if you do not have a high budget).

It really depends how much "authority" your website already has built up. If your website doesn't have lots of backlinks and authority on it already, then you should target smaller and easier keyphrases.

Well, before to choose a keyword you need to know the value of the keyword along with this need to use the keyword correctly, then only it will be effective.
The keyword you have selected whether it is high competition or low competition keyword which also matters. You can use Google Adwords or google keyword planner to find an appropriate keyword for your site.

actually number of searches per month is not the only factor you should look at to choose a KW.
Its more the value of that amount of searches:
i mean you can get a better ROI with a "buyer" KW than a global KW:" BUY a blue lamborghini" would be better to rank for than "blue lamborghini". and it would be less difficult to rank for.

other searches gets pretty low amount of searches say even 50 per month or even less, but they can be true goldmines and easy to rank, cause most "seo gurus" are fighting for big keywords like "best insurance quotes, or make money online.

ex: "custom home builders in arkansas" gets only 20 searches per month on google adwords, thats pretty low. But if u can rank that KW, and you can sell/negociate a lead to a home builder at % of the house price: you just do great seo like that.

and there are thousands short gold terms to find like that.

with a bit of simple seo you can do yourself or outsource, you can easely, rank 10, 20 of those easy terms, and invest less than on a big kw.

    just some advices.

    good luck
