Using An Old Domain That Once Had Page Rank

It was all the rage a couple of years ago to hunt old domains, that may even be dead for 10 years, and BAM.... Google counted may of the links to them.

Although this could back fire with delisted sites, does this still work ?

I am looking for a domain for a real biz, and I just remembered about this.
Both to check for back links to avoid dodgy links to a domain and also to use to my advantage.

    Still you can use this domain based on current metrics. Check referring domains and backlinks metrics using Ahrefs or Majestic SEO TF/CF. This will give some great insights.
