Hi, I had many years ago, 3-7years ago made kind of annoying sniper sites.

Without any doubt, WordPress sites was all things being equal were well and truly out ranking my others.

I am looking at dong a site, a real site with real content for sale, deciding between WordPress or Serif WebPlus8 which I kind of like the feel of.

Google rankings will be important, any constructive comments welcome.

Thanks

Google never favored Wordpress and still does not today.

Today I have no idea, I am not saying they favored wordpress maybe, but there was some reason why the WP ones consistently ranked much higher, it may be something simple and factual like nice clean coding behind the scenes in WP or something like that, I don't know why. I am sure it was more than a co-incidence. Does anyone use Serif Webplus and feel their sites are not ranking as expected, that is what used to be the situation but that was a long time ago and there have been man new upgrades since then.

Lol... No Wordpress was never favored. Hell, if anything, behind the scenes most Wordpress sites are a bloated mess when it comes to code.

Wordpress is simple to use, therefore a lot of IM'ers use it. When a lot of people in your niche are using it who are trying to rank higher, there is a good chance you will see more Wordpress sites at the top of the rankings. It had nothing to do with Google favoring Wordpress.

SEO-wise, Wordpress sucks out of the box.

Out of the box wordpress is still better than many platforms. One or two plugins later and you have an extremely solid platform.

As mentioned above, wordpress does 'seem' to do well because something like 25% of the internet apparantly uses it now.

I will always recommend Wordpress if you are going to be updating and modifying the site, due to the availability of plugins and simplicity of use.

I don't know what you are smoking. WP is one of the most bloated, lame CMS
on the planet. 1 or 2 plugins will not salvage that.

If riding bicycles was IM related, most of you would extol the virtues of
riding a tricycle. Simple, easy to ride.

No, it's not. Have you checked some of the horrid turds that are available on this planet? Of course you've not. Not sure if the newest Joomla has gotten that much better, but even a few version numbers back and it sucks and blows much more. It's been several years, but I actually tried to find simple PHP-based systems that were reasonably good. That search soon got fairly depressing, and I've since moved to WP only.

Now, I do agree that WP is somewhat bloated and I think average users would be much happier with a proper template engine instead of the mess that is the theme engine. With WP it's almost required that you're a programmer to do anything that's even slightly advanced.

WP out of the box does "SE friendly URLS", content redirects in case you rename, and basic titles and metas. What do you expect from a CMS?

To OP: it's an illusion that probably stems from WP's relative popularity. I've been using WP full time for 5 years, and I've never heard of Google favouring WP.

Some SEOs recommend WP to their clients because they know it's a household name, and it's probably not going to be the technical part that messes up the whole project. Works well enough, and it's easy for them to live with.

        What's your excuse?

  • Google never "Favored" Wordpress.

But beyond that, people jumping on WP is a little out of hand. It's been the underpinning of many marketers who have made a ton of money, it's really little else than that. To talk badly about it is, well it's basically PHP-fangirling.

If Joomla, Drupal, even something like Muse had the third party functionality support of WP you'd see much less of that platform. But they don't, so why cry about how "Bloated" (etc, etc, etc) WordPress is when it's provided a somewhat stable base for thousands of people to run businesses off of?

Who cares... It's about money - not the prettiest code, fewest div's, fewest http calls, etc. and up until those things interfere with revenue generation then really, what's your point? Who are you impressing?

Wordpress is not "favored" but it is the easiest free CMS to use.

Confusing because of the word "Still"
Anyway, there is no platform or website that Google would be favored for rankings.
