Website speed optimization - reducing server response time - how ?

As you probably know page speed is top factor affecting visitors time spent in the website and bounce, and there fore it reflects to website SERP.

So question here is: I have my site on WP and I got quite some plug-ins for optimizing it (WP-optimize, Automatize etc) and then ran it through Google's page speed insights.

However I still get red messages on what to fix. One thing it says is: "Reduce server response time"

Tried to look for plug-in for that, but with no luck. (maybe it is not plug-in related at all - i'm kind of newb)

So what would you recommend for handling this issue ?

Thank you

Just read the words "server response time", and you might realize that it's about the time that it takes for the server to respond. Switching to a faster server is the solution that may have the most effect. However, adding a caching plugin may help depending on what Google is looking for. W3 Total Cache is a popular one.

If you're on Bluehost, GoDaddy, Hostgator, Dreamhost, 1&1, or one of the other big names, overcrowded server is likely the culprit here. Although you often get this "warning" when the site is doing just fine. Google's threshold is pretty low.

Yes it was actually stupid of me to say that I need a plug-in for it.

I have W3 Total Cache - i'll try to compare metrix with and without it.
My domain is on Namecheap but I recently switched the name servers to CDN (cloud flare). Idk if this affects as well.

My host is the #1 most popular in my country. (my site is in local country/region/language - non English) Idk if I upgrade my plan if it will affect the score or I'd better ignore it and focus on other parameters.

Check that it's actually working (and not in the whatever demo mode it ships with), and that you're not using everything that the plugin has to offer. I'm usually only caching pages (in addition to browser settings and JS/CSS optimizations).

If you empty the cache, don't run the test as the next step. You should have the cache primed (already filled) to get a realistic response. There's also a setting to warm the cache based on your XML sitemap, but of course you can just browse the pages when not logged in.

It's got nothing to do with this particular message. Please read Google's description.
