Does "Tags" help with semantic search and silos?

Hi there

I have been researching a bit about silo structure, semantic search and how that improves SEO.
In short: everything is about creating a website structure that stacks under the same menus and sub-menus pages with similar topics and keywords semantic group (semantically similar).
I have read that in order to increase the value of pages it is important to create relationships between those stacks. Do you think tags are enough to create these relationships? Should interlinking be a priority too? Should we use rich anchor text on those internal links?

Any more suggestions on this subject will be very welcomed.

  • Tags are likely just going to screw up a silo structure. The only time I use tags is if I am building dual silos, but that is a little more advanced for most marketers.

You can build much more powerful links on a page than tags.

  • I personally nofollow/noindex tags whenever I set-up a Wordpress site. In fact I do that for categories and I disable the archives.

    • That's interesting, have you seen any tangible results after doing this in an already existing website?

      Thanks!

I wouldn't advise to use tags, it's only going to clutter the site with duplicate content (unnecessary headache).
