Used a 302 redirect and lost a lot of organic traffic (advice)

Hey everyone,

So I was playing with WordPress and managed to edit my permalink structure (duh). Anyway I changed everything back to normal but some of the URL links on Google were showing 404 errors as a result.

So my host provider decided to do a 302 redirect until Google re-indexed my site. Anyway, a few days later I am losing my rankings in the SERPs and down on traffic.

Now I've changed everything to a 301 redirect from the hta.access file.

My question is this:

1) Is there anything I can do to speed up the process of getting my rankings back to more or less what they were before? (I've used Google Fetch from GWT).

2) Anyone had this happen before, how long should I expect before things go back to normal-ish?

Thanks in advance for the comments.

You're pretty much confusing the heck out of Google by switching URLs back & forth.

Once a page is ranked leave the URL alone unless you really know what you're doing, even then it should only be done in extreme cases. Figure out your URL structure before ranking pages.

Anyways, you've already done the damage. Figure out what you want the URL structure to be & stick with it, stop jumping back & forth with redirects.

It will take however long it takes you to get Google to reindex the URLs, again If you keep editing URLs & doing 301/302 redirects to new URLs Google will keep bouncing your pages around the SERPs.
