Search not finding my home page?

Every time I do a search for my site using a keyword I get inconsistent results. I rarely have the home page returned in the SERP's but rather a secondary page. The home page is the only page that is really SEO friendly and in fact there is hardly any information on the secondary pages yet.

How can I get the SERP's to always point to the home page? That is where I want visitors to start. I tried a page redirect but that didn't work as it disabled my navigation.

Thanks for any help or thoughts on this.

    For one thing, SERPs are often inconsistent, period. But having more than just your home page indexed is great! Make sure your secondary pages link back to the home page, and get busy filling them up. If you can get several of your subpages to rank for their keywords, you may be able to dominate the first page.

    1. Make sure the page title, link structure, text on the page, and meta description align with the keyword you're targeting.

    2. Build backlinks to that page with the keyword you're targeting in the anchor text. Start out small by submitting to sites like Digg and Mixx, and then begin building backlinks more aggressively.

    Let me ask you a question.
    Why do you not want a secondary page showing up?
    Why do you only want the index page?
    Okay, that's 2 questions.
    I want my secondary pages found. That's where the
    content is. The index page is mainly general and
    navigation oriented.

    Sometimes a so called secondary page looks better
    to a search engine.

    If by secondary, you mean somewhat orphaned, you
    can always do a 301 redirect and get rid of it.

    If it is not an orphaned page, then pump it up. Seems that
    you have a start and need to add to those pages.

    If they hardly have any content at all, and you don't want
    them expanded, then like I said, they need to be 301 redirected.
    Perhaps your main page is not tweaked correctly and has too
    much of a good thing.

    I would ask myself why I even have the secondary pages
    if I am not really using them. I would look to see if I can
    figure out why search engines like it. I would tweak it so
    it has some meaning and content.
