SEO for Automotive Shop

I have a client who wants more business for his automotive repair shop. He's in Santa Monica, CA.

I didn't design, though I have access to Car Services, Auto Repair, Restoration Shop in Santa Monica | EDs Airport Auto Service.

He wants to focus on repairs, fixing broken mufflers, radiators, tune ups, things like that, for any model, as it's quicker and more profitable than restoration work, which he also does.

He's got a really good status on yelp. No social media.

I know many searches are possible. As an example, I searched google for:

auto repair santa monica

and I found he ranks #38.

I see other sites who rank higher have a totally different set up. Makes me think I'll have to redesign his site.

I'm guessing people would search for:

mechanic santa monica
auto repair pacific palisades
muffler repair santa monica
radiator repair los angeles
brake mechanic malibu

with their problem and city.

I've read a fair amount or SEO material, and worked on it with some of my Wordpress sites.

blog.kissmetrics.com/seo-guide/
http://static.googleusercontent.com/...rter-guide.pdf
and some other stuff.

I am fairly technical, and I've got a general idea. I made Wordpress sites before. I tried a few things. I am considering:

1. redesigning the home page, so it, not services.html has a fair amount of anticipated keywords.

2. creating social media pages, like FB, pinterest, twitter.

3. Incude a link to yelp, since he has good reviews there.

4. Add more auto brand names

5. Locations:
5a. Mention his and nearby cities: Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Pacific Palisades and
5b. adjacent LA neighborhoods, as that is how Los Angeles is divided up (Venice, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Brentwood, ...)

6. update the html. I think it's html4.

Is this the best way to help him or are there better techniques?

edit: there are 2 bad reviews on his yelp... not sure if to approach client or not...

You don't want to be reliant on search engines as way to generate traffic.

Although there is some known variables of Google's algorithim you don't own or have any control over where you get placed and where your site ranks. Even if you rank your client for all those keywords google can wipe out those site rankings literally within a day.

Email and social media marketing is alot more stable strategy for clients since you are directly in control of the accounts and the emails. At anytime you want you will generate traffic to their sites since you are in control of it.

However with search engines you can take months to rank a site to #1, and it can be gone the next day.

Thanks, I just made him a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Eds-A...33459570203524 and a pinterest page (I don't see the link available).

    Are those good?

Any other good ones to add?

Hello, some ideas for you to work on:
Add business to Google places- in this case people looking to repair car may find it on Google maps
You may leave your website as is or renew to CMS
You may even create a blog as a subdomain- seo juice will go to root domain and will help people to find you
Create a video chanell on youtube and Vimeo- Make advertising video or hire someone- it may be animation, may be customer feedback, may be something more viral like (lets say sportscar repair/tuning/restoration project)
Make discounts- lets say: this week we change oils with 50% discount
Fill blog with success stories: lets say how we restored cadillac deville in 2 months- write what jobs were done, what parts used add lot of images and videos. Share all new stuff on social media.
