Directories & Search Engines

I know that submitting a fairly new site to hundreds/thousands of random directories and search engines is not the way to go.

But I do believe that there are some general directories and search engines (other than G and Bing) that can be helpful for SEO and traffic. I just do not know which ones.

Can you tell me which ones that you have found to be helpful? It doesn't make a difference whether the listings are follow or non-follow.

Thanks!

It entirely depends on your business.

Post where REAL PEOPLE can possibly find you and be happy that they did.

If Yelp makes sense, post there ... if not ... don't.

Too easy ... don't make it so complicated and don't try and cheat the system ... you can only win so long that way.

Directories: BOTW.org, DirJournal, Jasmine Directory, etc..

    List of quality directories

Search engines: These automatically find your site on its own so no need to submit.

Manually submitting your site to get indexed is a very dated tactic.

Focus on generating traffic and backlinks and you will get indexed organically.

By submitting your content to sites such as stumbleupon, redditt , and leveraging social media your pages will get indexed and generate.

However this is assuming you have content worth sharing that the people in each of these community will value of course.

Nobody said anything about getting indexed. Using directories properly goes way beyond indexing.

You done it again, Mike: using directories properly, beyond indexing.

How are they going to make sense of that?

        Tsk, tsk, tsk.
