Hyphenated Domains Significantly Worse?

Hey there. If my main target keyword was something like french language programs but frenchlanguageprograms.com was already taken but french-language-programs.com was available, would it still be an added benefit to register and use that domain although technically it has hyphens in it?

Thanks,

Jake

SEO wise? Sure. Brand building wise? Probably not.

I've found that as long as you have the keywords somewhere in your url (can be a page name, etc) you'll get whatever benefits that can be had from this.

From what I have read & heard.... it's better to use non-Hyphenated Domains if you're going for a "brand" or are expecting a lot of type-in traffic.

If you're visitors are going to be entirely web-based, meaning they'll be CLICKING to your website or copying and pasting the URL, Hyphenated Domains are probably better. They're easier to read and from what I understand they are better liked by the search engines (this is only what I've heard)

Ding, ding (though not about the better liked part).

Basically ditto. Branding: If you do a good enough job branding anyway, it won't matter.

It is always strongly suggested that use non-Hyphenated Domains
to put it simply, or form the users' point of view
they most of the time , people didn't type in Hyphen at all when they search

Definitely avoid hyphenated domains if you want your URL to spread by word of mouth. That domain is a mouthful when spoken aloud, and will be difficult for anyone to remember. However, if you just want to show up in the search results, and aren't looking for repeat visits then a hyphenated domain name is just fine.

You get more weight with the words in the domain rather than 'just' the url.

Hyphenated is fine. Depending on how well the words gel together I tend to use hyphentated domains anyway as the read better. It really depends how they flow.
