Changing domains later - Advisible?

We have a product in a very competitive space (like CRM) and would need a lot of work in SEO to get up there.

It would take another 2 - 4 months to launch publicly. But I think we should start working on SEO right away.

We can't give away the name of the product at this point in time. So, what is the best way to go about doing this?

One option that I thought of was:

Get started with the content (site) right away but don't mention the name of the product anywhere. This would also mean we need to work on another domain name.

When the time comes, we should switch the site to another domain name (that we are going to stay on in the long run).

Would this work? Are there better ways of doing this?

Thanks

It's not the worst plan I've heard. If you can't really disclose the product name in any form, this could be a way to start right now. Switching domains does affect the link juice that comes from the links to the old address.

However, building an event around the product launch might get you more backlinks and visibility overnight that you can build in couple of months.
      Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

What if we don't do any link building in those months? OR change/update all the incoming links later after we switch?

This can be in addition to the event around the launch that you suggested.

But if anyone has done this sort of thing before or has any experience, please let me know.

Even if anyone has not done any of this before but has an idea or suggestions on how to go about doing this, please let me know.

Changing domain name is not a big factor, when you think as SEO point of view which puts a huge effects into your website though you need to think carefully if your website is good enough in SERP.
