Hey,

If I bought a domain:

Vanservicesukplus.co.uk

and my keyword is: van services uk

Is the domain still classed as exact match with the plus on the end?

Thanks

It's not exact, it's partial. Not that it's going to rank a page either way.

I think you may be a bit confused? it doesn't matter if its EMD or if its not... there is no gain either way.

Now if you start looking at maximizing SEO potential for the URL variable... things get dicey real fast.

We already know that EMD and non EMD URLS are created equal. so if you your keyword target is: "Van Services UK" the URL: vanservicesukplus.co.uk would be a URL match. In a non EDM URL: mikesshop.co.uk/van-services this would ALSO be a URL match.

Where you can get into trouble is when you use: Vanservicesukplus.co.uk/van-services, you start stacking the URL with keywords.. and this can quickly be viewed as keyword stuffing.

It is a partial match, but all you should need to work with. As mentioned above, EMD's don't really get as much credit as they used to. VanServices would actually be better than both of those, lol.

You should avoid using the exact term when linking. With a good on page optimization and a couple of high authority links you should be ranking well for the keyword.

Keyword in the url still carries a lot of weight, you just need to be cautious not to over optimize.

Lol. This isn't that difficult. An exact match domain is an EXACT MATCH. Anything else is not an exact match domain.

Yup. And the chap has an EMD for
      van service plus

That means.....any domain is actually an EMD.

I can't believe people are still debating EMDs or non EMDs.

It was a silly debate years ago anyway.

You don't need to worry too much about it. EMDs only affect when you've low quality content on your site. If you take the time to develop great content, promote it and build relevant backlinks you'll be fine.

And you don't need to take my word for it, just go to Google and do some research about the topic and you'll find it's true

But your domain is not an EMD, though.

    Cheers!

Where's all this news that EMDs and PMDs don't work anymore -- or lost power? The whole "not that it's going to rank a page anyways".

yukon, I've got respect for you but that makes me question you a lot. What exactly do you mean by that statement?

Every site I setup ranks for it's own name within a few days. Regardless if the keywords don't have search volume, they still rank for their own EMD quickly. It's the same effect I had from 08-12 launching EMDs for profitable keywords.

Try this: Get an EMD (PMDs are OK, too) and build 20 decent links, using no commercial anchors. "Click here" "this website" "found here" "http://website.com"

Don't put your keyword on the page, other than in the site title and tagline. Use posts for related content without stuffing your main keyword into any of the post titles. Watch it jump into the top 10 -- as long as you aren't trying to target "lose weight fast".

The top 10 SERPs still dictate the effectiveness of EMDs and PMDs.

What you're describing is weak competition.

Sure it's possible to rank If everyone else below your page on the SERPs sucks at SEO & your entire site mentions the keyword plus every internal URL mentions the keyword (100% relevancy).

Creating a weak link profile because you think EMDs are SEO puts you at risk with competition more than it would have If you actually did SEO.

EMDs aren't even remotely a solid plan.

If you can create good authority site don't worry about the domain name.
