Hello there,

I'm just starting out in SEO so i apologise if this is a bit of a stupid question

I want to buy an aged domain for a specific niche. To make sure it's not in Google Sandbox. This I have covered with all the right metrics and checks.

Then I want create subdomains for the main site, and try to rank each subdomain for a local niche market. For example.

Car-servicing.com
alabama.car-serving.com or car-servicing.com/alabama (by the way what's the difference in SEO terms?)

Then I want to rank alabama car servicing as a specific keyword for alabama only.

Once it's ranking for 1 or 2 longtail keywords on the front page of Google, I'll 'rent' the subpage to a local company that offers car servicing in Alabama and it will feed traffic to the company's main website.

Is there any problems with this idea? Will it work like that?

Solid strategy, may not be as easy as you think but it can be effective if you can generate traffic to the pages that turn into leads.

With regard to the sub domains, I would go with DOMAIN/alabama over alabama.DOMAIN.

This is because most search engines (the big ones) treat a sub domain as a separate site, so it can't benefit from any authority that the domain as a whole builds up.

It will make things just that little bit easier in the long term.

Not true. xxx.yyy.com DA will be same as yyy.com/xxx.

Having said that I would also go with the latter. You might also consider doing videos or perhaps even start from videos. They will be easier to rank.

You might consider strating your website on a expired domain that already has some trust going to it.

Finally, when doing these type of lead gen sites, it is good to consider PPC (pay per call) model.

Your strategy is good, this is what allot of people do. Although, most don't do it for "renting" out the sub-domains. You'll probably make more money optimizing each of those and then making money off the traffic coming in yourself.
