Every day there is an update coming up. I just tested few old techniques of doing SEO and the tests were pretty normal, but they are there to make a difference.

Is it still useful enough to go on various forums related to your niche and post anchor links or simple http links ?

    Yes, a couple of caveats...

It won't work if you drop a comment then vanish.
You're not building relationships this way.

There aren't many reputable forums out there
that will allow your "anchor links." Good luck,
but keeping it spam-free will be beneficial for
    all in the long run.

If you know what you're doing, you can draw links without anchor text tricks. Seriously.

It's all about GETTING OTHER SITES OR PEOPLE WHO CONTROL SITES to TALK ABOUT your website.

That is a fabulous statement, but just felt impelled to highlight a few words...

HaHA of course it works... otherwise you wouldn't see a signature link for everybody who has replied to your thread so far. and I see that even you have a signature link also! Yep it works as long as you are providing value to the community people will eventually get curious and click your signature! As a matter of fact in the free report I give away on my squeeze page which is actually my signature link! One of the traffic methods I teach is forum posting and how to do it effectively and find the best forums to post on... FYI

For targeted traffic to your site, becoming a long term member of a good forum(s) in your niche, and posting on issues/questions that you know about is a good idea.

For SEO reasons..... not even sure if it's worth it. Do it for direct and instant action for your site... not for Google stats.

I would add that each time you come up with a killer insight that nobody is thinking or talking about, you increase your value to a forum. Simply repeating what everyone else has said, or what everyone thinks is "common knowledge" won't work.

Go deeper on subjects and traffic will come.

As others have pointed out of course it's still valuable but the key is that it's not instant and you need to be adding more value than you hope to take.

Become a valued member of the community with something in your signature link that your community members want and you will do more than alright.

I have news for you. The folks using sig links (the smart ones, anyway) are using them to get clicks from real people. The search value of these links was devalued a couple of years ago when they went nofollow.
