Why forum sites offer a signature? How it is related to SEO?

    • Forum posting is a part of SEO. Once you're allowed for Signature and Forum Site is do follow, It can increase SEO value for your link entered in Signature. In addition, Due to link in forum posting you can get visitors who might increase your sales. The main purpose for SEO is to get visitor and sales. That's why Forum Posting is concerned to SEO.
  • Forum posting is a good way to get traffic but it doesn't effect SEO what so ever.

    Assuming you have a signature of your URL or anchor text URL, and you make posts on forums with that, there are 2 things you might want to note:
    i) People notice your website and link to it because it's awesome or whatever (though possible, this is extremely indirect and unlikely and you should not see this as a SEO method)
    ii) You improve your link diversity

    Regarding point ii, it does nothing by itself to improve your SEO rankings (as most forums signatures are nofollow). However, assuming all other on page SEO and off page links that you build or earn are legitimate and good links from an SEO standpoint, then what forum links on relevant forums do for you is to improve your link diversity, to make your back link profile more natural looking and if you do it right, makes you significantly less likely to get penalised due to accidental over optimization.

      Does not matter if they are nofollow or not. Spam is spam, no matter
      how you slice it.

      Now, take a gander at some of the sigs floating around here...

      I would imagine that google takes a hard look at any forum link.
      Why on earth would I ever link to a money site in a forum?

  • Forums adding a signature has nothing to do with SEO. It CAN have some (small) SEO benefits if you add a link to your site and post there. There's generally better ways to get backlinks, though.

    • Traffic generation is not the same as SEO. This should be obvious to everyone, but unfortunately it's fairly common to put everything internet marketing related under the topic of SEO.

      Forum links are usually poor quality in any case. A serious forum with good reputation should use nofollow, and the kinds of forums that don't probably are both poor link sources, and spammed to death (dilution of the potential Google juice).

      The backlinks are of poor quality. This has been explained several times in the thread.

      Visitors don't increase your page rank, backlinks do.

      Is it really this hard to read the thread? It also never stops puzzling me why people need to post some crap when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about.

      Forums are originally for discussing and sharing new ideas, but can be useful for seo if used in good way.

    • Here's a good example of a signature spammer who obviously has no idea how SEO works, and why his silly links are useless. He would if he'd read the thread.

      Here's the sig that has four links to the exact same address.
      "Hospitality industry furniture | Custom hospitality industry furniture | Interior design | Contract furniture"
