I wouldn't worry too much on focusing on longtail search terms, or the number of characters. What is important is how competitive the term is in relation to the current power of your domain (i.e. whether you stand a cat in hells chance of ranking for it) whether your search term in question is a good match in terms of relevancy, and a good match in terms of searcher intent, whether the opportunity for click through rate on that particular results page is good, and whether the search term actually has any value to you.

I guess you mean counting SERP title characters, if that's the case it doesn't matter for ranking pages, it only matters for CTR on the SERP title/link.

Google parses the entire page title in the money page HTML source code. That's easily proven on the Google cache & by searching the last part of the hidden text/characters to the right of the ellipsis on the SERP title.

Ideally, your keyword phrase should be 4 to 8 words. Shorter will be too broad and have more competition. Just my humble opinion.

It's still good practice to keep it below 60 characters, otherwise your title will be cut off by Google and hence reduce click through rates as well. It's not so much about SEO but about CTRs if you write it too long.

As Alvin said, you need to think about the title in Google results (which affects CTR).

Other than that, it doesn't really make a difference. What matters is competition x search volume x value of said keyword.

Long tail keywords are important to get easy rank in search engine,because the have low competition.

I dont think so that number of character matters in long-tail keywords, the things are matters competition and search volume . But if you are talking about Meta title then yes we should consider the length and it should be between 50 to 60.

My ideal long tail keyword is one that has at least 3 words and search of about 100+. What matters in long tail is competition and search volume.

Long Tail keywords are growing in demand as Google tries to offer more search specific answers to queries. You will rank better with long tail and they will give you more targeted traffic

If you think you can rank for this keyword, try to use the exact long tail keywords as they appear in the keyword planner tool or exactly how people are searching for it.

using a long tail keyword is just not to bad but if you will use a keyword that is totally visible in google search box than that would be better as people will be interested to go to that link.

Ideal length for title is using it under 55 characters but you can use upto 60 also.According to you follow your old school
