White Hat SEO is only the best way to rank your blog or website.

SEO will take time to show you the effect, you have to be patient and be calm.

You don't get a rank overnight. You need to write high quality content on your blog first in order to look good in the eyes of Search Engines. My personal advice would be to forget about SEO and only focus on your content and Social Media Marketing.

Write for real human beings, help them out with your content and share your blog on Social Media. You will get ranked automatically.

i dont agree with the earlier poster. you can not forget seo. it is very important,
      anyway, if i must advice follow these steps;
      1. first do market research, no matter how small in other to understand competitor and user behavior. the research also include keywords, making sure you have the right words.
      2. optimize your site with this keyword and also make it is user and search engine friendly.
      3. then at this point you are ready to do social engagement and other backlinking stuff to traffic to your blog and at the same time get a cut from organic traffic cortsey of your keywords.

NOTE: If you leave seo and start driving social signals. search engines will not recognise your site for your keywords causing you rank loss which your social media activities gives your site.

Of course when you will care about Social Media, you won't forget about the keywords and tags. Remember the Hash Tag things on Twitter and + sign thing on Google Plus.

The main take away from my comment was "If you care so much about SEO and get obsessed with it, you will start writing only for the Search Engines. Which will degrade the quality of your content. While after all, the real human beings are your actual content consumer, not some spiders or crawlers"

        Hope I clarified my point.

If you think people spamming your blog...or even mundane comments will get you

People engaging in your blog or quality content will not get you squat from google.

Okay what if I steal content from other sites to my Blog and apply all SEO methods. Will I get ranked on the top of Google SERP?

According to you, the quality and authenticity of content has nothing to with ranking. Also Google has nothing to do with the engagement on your blog and all the Bounce Rate thing. Right?

If you steal content and do better SEO than the owner of the site you stole content from, you will rank, for sure.

I know because before I did SEO, I'd write articles that some people stole and they were #1 or 7 or whatever in Google and I was nowhere.

The site owner you stole from might complain to Google and Google might believe and care, case in which, Google will do something against your site.

Or, the site owner you stole from might sue you and, if you're in a jurisdiction where they can reach you, they win, the LAW makes you take down the content and pay them.

But SEO is not about that.

SEO is about having more links of the right kind pointing towards your site, more people mentioning your site in their posts, about having the right onpage optimization.

Quality content, according to Google's bots, is a whole different thing than what you think quality is.

If, by chance, a Human at Google reads your posts, then, and only, then are you and Google talking about quality in similar ways. Similar, not the same.

and it will happen only when your Blog and Content is worth mentioning. Means when you will write high quality and useful content, only then will people mention you in their posts and will link towards your blog.

                  It doesn't clarify your point.

For people to first see your content, you have to advertise it or do SEO.

Once you do that, then, and only then, do others start talking about your site.

And people will talk more about a cat linking its but than they will about War and Peace. And War and Peace is awesome content.

The point of you doing SEO, as opposed to you only writing what you think is great content, is to give your content a chance at being seen.

There are, as I've already said, other ways besides SEO to get your content seen.

But those other ways are not SEO, like you seem to think.

                  Or not good SEO.

Actually my main point was, "You should not get obsessed with SEO and worry too much about the Keyword Targeting because in the end it's all about your content for long term win. SEO may help Google to crawl your site easily, but it won't get people to buy your product or follow your Call to Action if your content sucks because you worried too much about SEO that you degraded its quality."

                    For Example
Whenever you are writing any blogpost, your main focus should be your readers not search engines. When you are done writing, then you may put some relevant keywords and prune your headings etc for SEO.

My main point was: don't get obsessed with SEO, it's only one form of marketing, but don't confuse SEO with other marketing forms.

And learn how to write for your clients, give them what they want, but do it around keywords... As opposed to write what they want, then add keywords.

I've seen it done both ways, I've done it both ways, and adding keywords after the fact is less effective, more awkward.

I never, ever suggested anyone write crap. I have an objection to people touting 'quality' content as the greatest SEO tactic.

No. Only if the linking pages are of decent quality and the links "followed". Mentions don't count for your site, but it's possible that a mention ranks in the search results and pushes something less desirable from the first page.

Right. Engagement is a YouTube metric, not something that Google search uses. It's sort of understandable that people confuse the two. Bounce rate isn't a metric, at least not just the generic bounce rate you see in Analytics.

As others pointed out, authenticity has nothing to do with ranking. Good content might rank, or it might not.

Yeah, only if the links are of decent quality and such type of links can be generated when you write High Quality content. Or else why would someone will link towards your site.

What I am saying is, if you care about the quality of your content. You will automatically perform better overall and won't have to worry about backlinking. People will link towards your blog themselves.

Though you are right about quality content, you're wrong about the automatically part.

When you have some down time, Google one of your terms, go to page 3 or 4... Often, you see much better quality there than on page 1.

Because those people think like you, while the people on page 1 think like Netiapina.

And, as far as quality, that's too damn subjective... Some of the most linked and shared pages on the net have images of cats falling, clouds that look like penises, and other such stuff.

Anyway, no matter how awesome your content is, nobody's going to link to it if they never see it.

To see it, you, the content owner, must do something to place it in front of their eyes. One such thing is SEO.

Instead of waiting for someone to go to page 147 in Google results, you could link to it from different sites yourself... Once it gets on page 2, maybe people will start linking to it, if it is, indeed, awesome content.

But they have to find it first.

SEO comes first; content second, from this point of view.

I know you disagree, but you don't do it based on facts. I've ranked #2 and #3 pages that had nothing on them but the keyword in the title and again as content. The whole site was 1 page with a keyword as title and the keyword as content and the keyword as domain name.

People landed on my page said, WTF, and left. But I made them land on my page. And some of them clicked on Google's ads and I made money.

It was a win/win for me and Google.

At the same time, many pages on a 57-page site of mine n the same niche just languished, though they had excellent content. Why: I did not get around to doing anything but the on-page SEO, and they were not easy terms I was going for.

Some, though, were the same level as the practically empty pages.

It's not your "quality is important" speech that I oppose per se, but "you will automatically perform better". No, you will not get anything automatically. If your great content sits on page 7 of Google results no real user will browse that far. As DABK pointed out you've got to get that content to the users before your site ranks. If you're lucky enough to strike a homerun with great content only - that's really great for you! But there's so much great content that it's harder and harder for your piece to stand out.

It's pretty weird to post such a confident claims that make it sound like "performing better" is certain. Granted, inductive reasoning would point to the direction that it's more likely that people like to link decent pieces than some random garbage. But what length would you go to get those links? How long are you willing to wait? What if your competition builds a solid "artificial" link profile that you just can't match in any foreseeable future?

I agree that "natural" link building is more desirable than something artificial, but it's possible that the links don't materialize. If you take the "natural" route you should at least consider either to bait or to ask for them.

All of this quality discussion is bit out of place in this thread. OP's content is crap. It's of course possible to write solid pieces on After Effects Plugins, but it'd probably take a different person to pull that off. There's simply no quality there.

Google Chicago dentists. First place is a page from yelp. It's got a lot of links to ads and listings.

So, Google is adding one extra step between you and your Chicago dentists.

I googled the phrase: weight loss tips

Number 3 is this: Jillian Michaels' Top Weight-Loss Tips - Health.com. Neither lots of content nor great content. 20 mind-boggling the mind banal, almost useful weight loss tips.

There are many more examples. You have not been paying attention.

Engagement, bounce rate, are just bogus terms. They mean nothing. Especially to
              google.

How does google know how long someone stays on your site? The majority of the

Quality has zip to do with shinola. I have no idea why you keep repeating that as
if you are in some trance.

Stolen, copied, syndicated, bought, swiped, ranks just fine on google. They
do not have control over the internet, nor do they want to. The readily rank
wikileaks....gee.....the biggest stolen cache in the history of stolen caches
              of documents...

Just search for the pirate bay....yeah...right. Google just hates that stuff.

Google could not possible rank sites due to engagement and bounce rate.
The intangibles would be numerous and challenging to say the least.

Google is not as stupid as you think.

You should read this forum and other forums. People screaming about
how their content got stolen and now they are outranked by those
              thieves....

Yeah, I agree. Google is not as stupid as someone may think.

The main thought that I am trying to convey is, Google uses somewhere around 200 ranking factors to rank any site. Instead of caring about all those factors which haven't been fully revealed yet. You should focus on your content, if you write something useful, helpful, valuable etc, Google will love to rank you higher on the SERPs.

Write for real human beings, help them out with your content and share your blog on Social Media. You will get ranked automatically.
Agreed write for people but that doesn't mean the same content can't be optimized for Googlebot with page & site structure.

Google doesn't comprehend content like a human would & quality content doesn't rank pages. You could take a webpage of text & reverse the order of the text & still rank the same page. The words have text definitions which is what Google associates with when crawling pages. Context is based on other words on the same page, the order of words is irrelevant for bots.

Writing for real human beings and caring about the quality of your content does not mean:
        1. There will be no keyword in your content.
        2. Google won't be able to scan your content.
        3. Web Crawlers won't be able to find your blog.
Actually what I wanted to say was "Don't get obsessed with that SEO thing, it takes long time to start showing you results. But if you care more about the quality of your content, then you will instantly start seeing results like people engaging on your blog and posting comments. Along the way, Google will too find your blog and rank it better. "

        Hope I clarified some confusion

You're not ranking pages because you think your content is awesome & you sure as heck aren't getting instant results based on wishful thinking. It's nice to have dreams but dreams don't rank pages, SEO ranks pages.

So you just wanna care about some boring keywords, follow bogus & traditional SEO steps and be on the mercy of animal updates?

and after that you are damn sure you will rank on the top of SERP?

Many people do the same above mentioned thing but in the end, only the quality of their content determines their rank.

Obviously you don't know me, I'm far from doing traditional SEO & show me a single post I've ever made on the entire interwebs where I've bitched & moaned about a Google critter.

My bet is you're Google butt hurt & can't rank pages.

What's funny is you're on an SEO forum complaining about SEO.

Good content is the most important aspect of SEO and gaining traffic in general. I noticed some typos and grammatical mistakes in your blog posts. Personally I use https://www.grammarly.com/ to double check all of my writing. I think it's worth checking out and revising your current articles.

Building a good website and business goes hand in hand with SEO now. If you're taking the steps necessary to build a strong business, the SEO aspect will come naturally. It's not like in the past where your SEO strategy would be a separate animal from your business and digital marketing strategy. Now, they both go hand in hand, so it's true that you don't particularly have to focus on SEO itself in order to do well, relatively, organically. So long as you're building a great platform, that in itself will play largely towards your SEO. Focus on your brand, your platform and your audience first before worrying about anything else. That's a true statement to some degree. There are plenty of sites out there who rank well and never did anything for the direct purposes of SEO.

    The Fastest Way to Rank

I have been ranking webpages easily with using all of googles platforms

    Here is what I mean
You want a lot of sites creating backlinks to your blog and the most reliable sites I have found are mainly on googles platform such as Google Hangouts, Google Sites, Blogspot, Blogger and I use Tumblr to create syndication to my money page (which in your case it would be the blog)

To start off I would do some research on a plugin that everyone is using or looking to use... Or if you have a plugin similar to what people are searching for (google keyword tool, youtube search terms tool)

Then I would do a google hang out video (title it the plugin people are searching for)
in the description I would place the link of your blog & a sentence or two about plugin

After google hang out is done I would grab the embed code (this is the key to everything)

Take that embed code and start creating mini sites with the BIG Five... Word Press, BlogSpot, Blogger, Tumblr, Google Sites

Title all of them after the plugin (people are searching for same as google hang out)
Drop about a few sentences about the plugin place your blog link

IMPORTANT Place your google hang out embed code on each site (the embed code is powerful)

Finally use fiverr and find some social bookmarking gigs and order a few that looks good and send the social bookmarks to the Big Five Sites

Basically your creating syndication to your blog with the Big Five sites, then your creating syndication to the Big Five sites which are all leading to your blog... Which has an embed google hang out on it

Google loves this stuff... Your creating social proof for google and your blog

This is an overview of what I do to rank sites I didn't get to detail but I hope you understand and it helps

Ok folks. It seems like there's a heated discussion here between writing for readers and writing for Google. My opinion is:

Write high quality that wouldn't irk Google and would be engaging to readers. Well... that's what we do anyway.
