Your website looks good but it isn't ranked on Alexa:

    williamstileandstone.com Site Overview

Our site's visitors have dramatically been reduced from 500 visitors a day to just 54. That's in the last three months, but even we're ranked 10m on Alexa. Still very bad for us though and we have tried everything too.

Okay. I'm sorry, but don't listen to any advice from this guy. Alexa has nothing to do with rankings or traffic.

As for your site, I'm confused about what you do. Yes, tile and stone obviously, but do you serve the local community? Do you ship tile and stone around the country?

I'm guessing it is a local business, but you have no address on the site, which is a big mistake for local rankings. I cannot find your Google Business page, another problem for local rankings.

I would dump your forum. It is clearly attracting nothing but spammers. 42,000+ members and 7 posts. For some reason you have 2 links to the forum on the home page too. If you are going to keep it, drop one of the links.

The Backpage? What is that? Looks like a worthless page.

Nothing to do with SEO, but I would consider changing the font. It's hard to read, especially in your box in the lower left corner.

I cannot find any links pointing at your site. That is a huge problem. Also means that you have likely created zero citations. Another major issue for local rankings.

In short, and to be blunt, you are ranking right where you should be.

Agree. Alexa only returns the rank based on how many people who install their toolbar and visit one particular site. It is far from accurate method to measure traffic plus has nothing to do with SE ranking.

You cannot be serious? And by the way, I wasn't giving any 'advice'. I was just showing that his website isn't ranked on Alexa and he's proved that because he said his site traffic isn't good.

And I don't have an Alexa toolbar.

Mike, your reply was very rude.

The point was that focusing on Alexa is useless. It provides nothing of value. It was not rude. It was honest. Advising anyone to focus on Alexa is just plain stupid.

You don't have to make many changes, just some text or photo changes. And don't forget to put the alts in.
This is also wrong. Rankings have nothing to do with how frequently a page is updated.

You can find countless pages ranking just fine that have not been updated in a decade.

I know you wern't suggesting Alexa as anything of value towards building Seo, just the fact that i have some work to do if i want some higher rankings. it is a neat
resource that i had no idea about so thanks for that.

Someone said that the site looks weird, and I have to agree. I have an ad agency background, and some of my colleagues were die-hard typeface enthusiasts, so take that in account... But you've got way too much going on in the font front. The script font doesn't look too good when you're using that much of it. There's simply too many fonts. Some text elements go over other elements in a way that doesn't look good.

Not much to do with SEO per se, but I think this kind of initial impression is a problem in this case.

No. You're plain wrong in your "advice", presenting worthless metrics as a proof of something, and at best steering OP to completely wrong direction. In this case telling people to ignore you is a favor to everyone else on this forum.

If you think Mike was rude... Well, I'd be just telling you to STFU if you don't have a clue.

OK did that and can only found some you tube videos but they don't have any back links also your link isn't working because you have a space between the characters "cut -paste from your blog" ( http://www.williamstileandstone .com) you don't realy need a link there in you blog post any way.

The back links people are talking about are likns placed on other peoples websites and directory sites linking back to your own site. These are important for Google to give you some authority. .

Yes, and as PBScott said there seems to be very few of them. I checked with Majestic, and they found 0. That may not be accurate, but it's something you need to investigate.

You got to have backlinks. Unfortunately getting them might be the hardest thing about SEO.

OP, please do yourself a favor and don't listen to these guys. I don't know what kind of fumes they're huffing, but that's a complete waste of time and money. Alexa rank doesn't matter one bit. It's just a guesstimate based on partial data and questionable methodology which includes a lot of interpolation. Yes, that essentially means coming up with numbers that don't exist.

The only rank you should be interested in is the search engine rank for the keyword you've chosen. Not a 3rd party metric, and especially not one as crappy as Alexa.

I think all the serious guys here will ignore your 301 question, because that really is not your problem. Your site needs a completely new structure. You have a blog with one post saying you're not a blogger. A forum with no members, and I really can't imagine what should be discussed on your forum. And the relevant information is unbelievably hard to find.

Do yourself a favour and rethink your page from scratch. What is the goal of your site. I bet you want to build enough trust so people contact you. There is no need for fancy things then. Get rid of the blog and forum!

Draw a sitemap to get an overview of a possible outline of the information. Then do a mockup.

And I think it is a good idea to do that with pen and paper.

the forum actually only has one member, i created the member and reply count myself just to throw people of the scent you are correct about my lack of links, seo is something that I've just learned about and started trying to implement. but for the last week or so its been manly just reading up on and trying to get familiar with the basics. I'm currently trying to work on my link building, but so far all that is is me calling businesses
that are in the construction industry, trying to locate there webmaster and seeing if link trading is something there interested in. i do however have a instructional you tube video
I posted a while back, should i post a link to that on the site?

It seems that you have virtually 0 backlinks going to your website. Even with the best on page SEO, without backlinks from relevant and authority sites in your niche & (local sites if you're targeting local customers), you would continue to struggle for your SEO. Focus on your off page SEO on top of whatever on page SEO you have/are going to do.

    Problem #1: Website layout

    1. Get your website STRUCTURED properly. It's all over the place. Create relevant pages and create a landing page from scratch.

    Pages can include:

    About | Services | Gallery | Get a Quote | Installation

[I am just playing around here - you can do a better job in this]

    2. Get rid of the font. Use a better one from Google Fonts.

    3. Change the theme. You'd need forever to fix it. Just choose a better theme relevant to your niche
    (Hint: Use the 'showcase' themes)

    3. When I clicked on this page, then only I understood what's going on with your business. Bring all these images on the front (home page) and explain what does your business has to offer: Bathroom Pics/ Kitchen Pics Ideas tile choices << 'Inspiration'

    4. Write a clean landing page with all the services you offer. Add 2-3 short descriptions under each service. Better, if you can add a page of 'Services We Offer' and then include all of the following things.:

    We install

    Tile, Stone, And Granite Countertops

    Carpet and Hardwood
    Flooring

    New Showers We Sell

    Tile, Stone, Porcelain
    Ceramic, Travertine.

    Carpet, Laminate, and
    Hardwood Flooring

    [Rewrite everything]

    5. Get rid of the forums.

    6. Put phone number and address on the front page.

    7. Again, work on the landing page. Right now, it's all over the place. Here are some of the example sites in your field who are doing a better job without confusing their customers:

Carminart :: The Art of Tile - Westchester County's Leading Tile Supplier

    casa-blanca-tile

Tile Store in Westchester, NY | Serving Katonah & Briarcliff Manor, NY

    8. When I click on the 'Blog', I am redirected to a 'About' page which clearly mentions 'I'm Not A Blogger'.

Question: Why is there a blog on your website in the first place if you are not comfortable with it? If it is there, kindly remove this 'I'm Not A Blogger' post. It seems very rude and shows that you are not interested in updating your website from time-to-time.

Problem #2: Non-existent on search engines

    1. I typed 'williams tile and stone' on Google and I got this site ranking on top of the results:
HOME. If you have tried everything with SEO, buy a WSO here to start getting results.

    2. No backlinks. Start with creating some solid do-follow + permanent links to touch the ground. Again, you can do this yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Always start local and then proceed from there.

    3. Work on your online presence as a 'Tile Contractor' or 'Stone or Tile Fabricators' or whatever you are into 'specifically'. This includes Google Maps, Yelp.com and Google+ Page.

    Start with these first.

Your site is confusing. Do you sell locally? Do you sell nationally?

        The site says

We Sell Tile, Stone, Porcelain Ceramic, Travertine. Carpet, Laminate, and Hardwood Flooring

You sell it where? To whom? I do not see anywhere that I can order any of that stuff. Is there a store?

Yes. Nobody is trying to rank for a term like 'williamstile'. However, Google has to show something for every search query. You site has that as the beginning of the domain name.

I am in the state of Hawaii on the island of Oahu, if I generate local searches, I think they should know what areas I service.
because everyone on the island services all areas, I build kitchens and bathrooms, my office is at your house. All flooring on the island has to be shipped in and takes a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks to get here, I sell from different wholesalers on the island, but here's the thing, I want people to call me so I can answer these questions myself but they can't call me if they can't find me, if you are lookiing to renovate your kitchen or bath in Honolulu I would at least like to show up on search queries for, tile, bathroom, kitchen, shower, ect

You already got pretty solid advice here, especially from Mike and SMworkcafe. I'd just like to add that local SEO is a little different than general SEO. Mike threw in citations, and for a reason. Are you in the yellow pages or other directories?
I really had to look hard to find your contact data. Maybe an "About Us" page would be a good idea.
The Moz Local Learning Center is a good place to start for local SEO, I think.

    Best of luck,

    Mirko

Thanks Merko, I'm not in the phone book anymore, I don't really feel people go to the phonebook to look for services anymore,
it seems I'm ranking ok in my opinion on Bing and Yahoo, just frustrated I'm virtually
non existant on Google. I'll check out that moz learning center, thanks

Maybe people don't. But Google likes to see a phone number (you know, part of NAP). It helps a bit in determining legitimacy of a business. So, get in yellow pages online (and other local directories) if you aren't already.

Just posing links on Twitter back to my Google pages and YouTube that have links to my site, that was just a couple days ago though. I'm working on getting links from distributors but a little easier said than done.

Well...I have checked your site. It looks...weird. Sorry, no offence. I think the first thing you should do is to hire a professional website designer to redesign your site, and you definitely need to put your business phone#, address and probably working hours as well on the site if you are a local business.

OK, i think i found something, and i hope i can explain this clearly. i was on my blog and i clicked on my
site link right clicked and it gave me the option to google search the link witch i did' and it had absolutely nothing on me, but under the suggestion did you mean it spells out the exact link i just searched and then once i click that one it brings up my site and a bunch of pages of everything I've ever done, so at that point i had to dig through three links on google search 2 of which wer identical, could this be a 301 redirect issue, i recently changed my preferred web name but when i contacted webstarts about 301 redirect they told me they handled all that on there end. I'm not sure if your able to go on my site and highlight then right click the link at the bottom of the page to see if you can follow the same path and let me know what you guys think i would really appreciate it, thanks again Williams Tile/ Kitchen and Bath remodeling

On top of the things you can fix on your website, the fact you seem to have 0 back links is likely the main reason why you are not showing up in search.

I would probably change this "Williams Tile And Stone" to "Williams Tile And Stone in Oahu" for simple clarity when people do show up on your website.

for what its worth this is the response i got from google webmasters forum.
" Your site redirects the non-www version to the www version with a 301 code. This means that the non-www version (as it is now) cannot be indexed and Google is going around in a loop. You have two choices:
Either reverse the redirect (from the www to the non-www)
OR remove (or reverse) the preferred domain in Search Console (i.e. undo whatever you've done)."
