Please only reply, if you have experience with pagerank. I have been doing lots of research trying to figure out what is happening with no luck. Here is my scenario: 2.5yr old blog, good traffic (10,000 uniques/day), good Alexa rank of 110,000 world, and 32,000 US. Alexa says 84 sites linking from high quality backlinks. 60% of my traffic comes from Google search. BUT...
Try as I may, my google pagerank for the site is still 1/10.. WTH? I see sites with half the traffic and backlinks with pagerank of 4/10 in my niche. What is going on? I have spent 2.5yrs working on the SEO and backlinks and it is producing no results. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this/

  • How can you determine your current pagerank? I thought Google discontinued that thing.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • there are a bunch of free online tools, you can search for them. Google no longer uses PR as its main rank, rather it is one of many factors they consider. however, that doesn't change the fact that many advertisers and blog buyers still completely depend on the PR.

    • Honestly, I think that people using PR as any decision-making factor should just quit their online business. PR was not switched from "one factor" to "one of many factors" it was totally discontinued as a metric for consumers. Google still use a similar metric internally but that is it. No tools can give you any accurate current PR state of your site, free or paid. As for Alexa - it is an easily manipulated metric as it only represents numbers for visitors using their toolbar. I personally find it useless.

What I would advice you when dealing with such people, is to explain them the logic behind things, educate them on what is the general idea of web search, why so-and-so is useless, while so-and-so provides real value. It is normal for clients to ask for PR and Alexa, following the same outdated nonsense that is being frequently parroted online. They don't know better and that is alright - its not their job. But as the provider of such service it is YOUR job. Instead of leaving them delluded and trying to match your business to their standards, simply explain why your standards work!

  • Google no longer publicly updates its PageRank data.

There is no way to see your actual PR anymore. All you can see is data from their last public update which was almost 2 years ago.
  • Hey Paul,
I agree but that still leaves me with the same problem. My blog is 2.5yrs old with good backlinks and traffic but PR sucks. I see competitor blogs that started within the last 2 years with great PR score and they don't have the traffic or backlinks. What am I doing wrong? I have read everything I could get my hands one, I create content, get backlinks and Google obviously sends readers to my blog. So, what gives?

    • You are not listening. YOU CANNOT SEE YOUR PAGERANK ANYMORE!

Google stopped updating the data publicly. Anything you see that is providing PR information is based on the last PR update in December of 2013. Google has not released any updates to their public PR data since then.

Your PR may or may not have changed, but you will NEVER KNOW!
  • Google removed the ability to view your PR awhile ago
