Google Slapped!?

So I bought an exact keyword match domain name and started building backlinks. I got it to number 1 in Google for my keyword and 2 days later it's at 268. Is this what's known as a Google Slap or Sandbox? Anything I can do at this point?

  • More than likely this is the period where Google is trying to figure out exactly where to place your site...Nothing to worry about.

    • It's nothing to worry about, except that period of time seems to be months in some instances.

  • Well I liked it better when they decided it belonged at number one!
  • First of all, Google Slap refers to AdWords quality score problems, so it isn't a slap.

You didn't say how long it took you to get to #1. If it's a relatively new domain, or page, the position in Google varies wildly from day to day in the beginning, it goes up, it disappears, it comes back, it disappears again, and if it deserves to be at the top, that's where it will land. So if your page is new, this sounds like normal stuff.

  • It's the Google dance - keep building links daily.
  • No such thing as a Google Slap or Sandbox .... You just need to continue building backlinks and keep in mind that many other people are also building backlinks for that same keyword. You can have a domain name made from the keywords all you want, that does not mean you will retain top listings for that keyword.

    • It's the google dance. Happened to me many of times. You will get back to the first page in a few weeks or maybe sooner. Keep building backlinks.

      Cheers
    • I understand, but going from 1 to 268 overnight is not the result of 267 other domains surpassing me in backlinks.

  • I think I overdid it with the backlinks, Social Bookmarking and Blog Commenting. 500+backlinks in a few weeks. Maybe too much too fast? Live and learn I guess. The question is, what to do now?

    • Don;y worry same was the case with mebut after some time my keywords starts recovering but the keyword is generic it will take time to come back.

    • No such thing...at least on the scale that you are doing it...
    • No, it has nothing to do with your backlinks, so don't you worry. And no, this is not too much too soon. As it has already been pointed out, this is something that any new site goes through. Under these circumstances, I would stick to the normal link-building routines, without leaps or drops.
