  • Sounds like the dreaded Google Slap

Do you have webmaster tools setup on that domain? That would be a good place to start to see what is happening.

Did you purchase and use any spammy link products?

Check out current link profile for spammy links you did not create- you may be a vicitm of negative SEO. - Learn to use the disavow tool (google it)

    Start there, hope this helps!

    • Yes Google Console/Webmaster tools showed no issues.
    • What products do you use to check backlinks for spam?
  • I'd second the check your webmaster tools.

I took a quick glance at the site and backlinks: the only thing that immediately jumped out at me is the number of image links. I checked a few of them and of the handful I looked at all of them were linking to Perkins Cole as a sponsor. It may be that you're getting tagged with a penalty for "paying" for links.

This isn't a situation I've even run into personally, so I can't say for certain this is your issue - it's just the only thing that immediately jumps out at me. You webmaster tools should tell you whether you have received a manual penalty though.

    Best of luck.

  • Perhaps you lost some links? Did you use any PBN? They could have been shut down or you just lost good links in general.
  • Yes, check WMT. There's no need to speculate over this until you do that.
  • I already checked the rankings of the domain for the keyword "insurance recovery" and its on 138th position. As suggested above kindly checked Google Search Console for further analysis for the site and consider that your competitors outrank you in the results page.
  • There are at least 150,000 links to that site. Good luck finding the "spammy" ones.

What onsite changes have been made. I would bet that is where you will find your problem. Were pages rearranged, internal links changed, etc.? It looks like there are about 20,000 pages on the site, so changing something in the menu or category structure could have drastic effects on rankings.
  • Banned
Looks like you've mastered the fine art of keyword stuffing.

    • oh nelly some heads will roll there. if you are serious about getting a job in SEO,I might suggest applying at Perkins Coie.. LOL
    • Whoa. Didn't even realize that the menu thing is that bad. Most of what Yukon refers to as keyword stuffing is links. The menu is also awkward and somewhat hard-to-use, but I guess the colors are nice.

450+ links on a single page. That's not just shooting your own foot, but taking a Gatling and a few Sidewinders to it.

So was there a redesign, or was there not? Redesign with braindead link structure would easily explain the drop.
    • What exactly am I looking at on this page? Text from a single page?

    • Wpw/ Whoever is in charge of SEO on that site should be fired... quickly.

  • Thanks everyone for noticing these issues. I am going to check in deeper with the dev of the site. I think it was a redesign.
