Questions about out ranking a site in search

If i have a niche idea and i look on Google and I see no sites directly talking about this niche but i see other sites who have a category in it ranking is that easy to out rank?

For example if my niche was golf clubs and there were no golf clubs sites but someone had a site for all outdoor activities and they had a category for golf clubs that was ranking. if i had a site dedicated to only golf clubs would it out rank those sites?

I realize there will be some work involved but i was wondering if its easier to out rank niches like that versus and established site dedicated to what i was going for.

Also what would be the best software to find out if its possible for me to outrank them?

Ranking in Google is not about how many sites are in a niche. It doesn't matter if your site is the only one in the "xyz niche" . . . other sites will most likely rank above you for any particular keywords. There's a reason they are at the top of Google.

I think you are on the right track, and SEMrush is good for seeing competitors keywords etc. Also build as many backlinks as possible.

Of course, you need to work on it. Google will not give special attention to your site even if it is focused on a certain niche. If you want to outrank those sites then start doing your work now. Do SEO, onpage first and then offpage. I'm sure if you are able to deliver proper SEO it will help you achieve what you aim for.

The fact that you see no other sites in this niche does that mean that there is no one searching for it? Just saying. Check how many searches there are a month and do you have a way of monotizing it . Just bear these things in mind before you start.

The answer to your question is no.

Google ranks based on many factors. It ranks pages not websites. So, a page on golf clubs on a site on golf clubs doesn't have a built-in advantage over a page on golf clubs on a site on tennis shoes.

The site that wins, assuming no links, is the one that does best on-page optimization of the keyword.

If they are equal and one has internal links and the other one does not, the one with internal links wins.

If both have everything you can possibly do on-page, on-site than it becomes a popularity vote. The one with the most votes (backlinks) wins, if they have the same type and same anchor text.

The one with the most 'best' backlinks wins otherwise.

      It's an oversimplification.

The advantage you have with a site on golf and a page on golf vs the other, if you do it right, you end up with the word golf (and related) keywords all over the place and it's easier to use internal links to tell Google that the page about golf clubs is about golf clubs.

Not a huge advantage, but an advantage all the same... Of course, you can end up quite easily with keyword stuffing.
