Hi.. simple question. Do google + votes/followers on your page benefit to its rankings?

Social activity that is related to your website is translated by Google as a quality signal. If those social "votes" are coming from multiple and real (or real looking) accounts then you will definitely see a positive boost to your rankings.

There are many case studies that have emphasize the value of social signals. I will try to find some of them and I will post them here.

No. There's no clear indication that Google uses any social signals. That goes even for Google+, a Google product.

Google+ posts may appear in the search results, but mostly for people who are in your circles (and logged in when searching for some related keyword). The scope for this is very limited.

I have only seen reliable-looking case studies that say the opposite. Yes, there's studies that say there's a correlation between rankings and "social signals", but that's easy to explain by other factors. Sites that are actively trying to campaign on social media may indeed get backlinks from other sources which in turn increases their rankings.

Define "social signal". Is it a nofollow backlinks on a weak page? Is it something like FB like that you need to get from their API? Or do you propose that any site that you deem "social media" affect search results for, you know, reasons?

You don't need lots of followers for it to help you. Actually, the link you're getting from the profile page is probably what benefits you the most. It's certainly worth setting one up (and making sure the profile contains a link back to your site), but I wouldn't worry about constantly updating..etc.

I noticed some advantages in google plus rather than other social media.

We can get do-follow backlink from story section and I saw google plus post in the "Link to your site" section in WMT. I never seen twitter or facebook links in there.

    Dear nettiapina.
There is one thing that amazes me all the time. On every SEO-forum, on every topic there is someone who says something like: "There's no clear indication that Google..." So why everyone still doing SEO? In hopes that may be this very instrument will help to rank?
Let's stop this pointless discussion as far as there's no clear indication of anything.
    With all respect.

It's a nice touch to use "dear", and misspell someone's nick. Well, I suppose it's too much effort to use copy-paste...

That kind of non-argument is known as non-sequitur. Your question has nothing to do with the first part of the comment. Why everyone does SEO? Because almost everyone feels that they need to rank high in search engines. That has nothing to do with some particular gimmick being effective.

If there's no clear indication that something can rank your pages you probably should stop using it, and at least stop calling it "SEO". There's fair amount of benefits to social media. If you're in it for wrong reasons you're probably not using it in an effective way.

    Dear, Dear, NETTIAPINA)
Yep, reading your posts I'm starting to understand that everyone does SEO using their "feelings" not skills.
P.S. As for your nick. My apologies, I've already corrected it.

The big picture about back linking is fairly easy to understand, and the mechanisms behind it make sense. Unfortunately it's not so for "social signals". Everything gets totally murky immediately, and none of the proposed mechanisms make sense from any point of view. Especially not from Google's. Do you really think that this behemoth of a company that fights a constant battle against spam would just accept random data from random 3rd parties?

This is why I posted the question you didn't answer. What are we even talking about in this particular case? If it's just something like "Google+ may help local" then I have very little to object.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear from you. A calm comment without irritation and biting. And yes "Google+ may help local" is my point of view. Use everything you can to get the best results. I don't object if someone who may have more experience wants to correct me. But not like you do. I hope we won't argue anymore.
        Best wishes.

So you're saying that it's a nice way to market to those that you lure to your circles.

That's got nothing to do with rankings.
