Do you think a new link is automatically factored into your rankings once it goes live?

I just received a link from sitepromotiondirectory.com

It has a very high domain authority, and low spam score on Moz. I've seen a few other competing sites with this link, and they rank well.

However, I wonder. As soon as it went live, my site visits dipped a bit. I could feel it.

Now, could very well be a coincidence, and something else caused this change in rankings at the same time.

But one thing I've always wondered... is google so intelligent, their software so good, that they can immediately, in an automatic way, adjust your rankings based on ranking factors?

I've seen that sometimes, when I write about a specific topic, I get extra visits for that topic that day.

So I wonder if the same goes for linking. Maybe deep down they don't like this source? And immediately, as soon as I was linked to from it, my rankings dropped because of it?

Not possible, right?...

Don't they crawl for backlinks periodically?

It's not going to help you instantly. Now that your link is added the search engines will see the link going back to your website the next time they crawl that page. It could be today, it could be tomorrow..etc. Anyways, if you see benefits from it I would expect to wait a few days at least..

Google react differently. Usually it takes about three days. But may be more. Anyway I wouldn't talk about "coincidences" in case of Google))

So was it just a drop in site visits? What kind of timeframe are you viewing, and what's the point of comparison?

Or did your ranks really drop? What was the drop? What was the preceding trend like? How are you measuring rankings?

You know, if your whole panic is based on a hunch and not enough data you're just wasting energy for no reason.

That's kind of their whole shtick, isn't it? However, they've got so many factors that you can't "feel" a single link from the bunch of stuff that goes in their magic box, and produces the output we see in the Google Search.

You're reading way too much to a single backlink. It just doesn't work like that.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
