Odd Backlinks

I was recently researching a domain which has an existing website on it to buy. It gets decent traffic and seems legit. But I noticed that about 20% of the back link anchor text is "child pornography" which is not only unsettling, but odd. This site has nothing to do with porn. I'm wondering if maybe the sites linking to the site I'm looking at maybe typed the URLs wrong. Why would these kind of links be pointing at the site I'm interested in? Obviously this could hurt rankings because of relevance, and I would certainly be disavowing them, but overall this just gives me a bad feeling.

  • Well it probably has to do what the domain owner was using it for... Expect the unexpected...

You can clean the domains up later by the way...
  • A competitor could have done it as well. Since it's up for sale, I guess it worked. I wouldn't get even if it was a mistake.
