so im new to seo i havent even made any money with it yet however the past week iv been 100% committed to learning the business. i mean pretty much studying 24/7 wakeing up at 6 in the morning not going to bed till 2am committed. however iv been seeing something that have got me a little discouraged about the industry and kinda make me feel like iv been wasting my time learning SEO. Iv seen multiple craigslist ads of people advretising their seo services for around 100 - 200 bucks. That does not seem like a price that a expert should be getting paid. I was thinking seo make $1000 and up per month on the low side. I even seen a ad on craigslist from a guy advretising seo and he was only charging $10 a week! Can someone hopefully give me some good news and insight as to what is happening in the industry. btw the guy charging 10 a week actually had sites ranked on the first page. look forward to hearing back from you guys thanks!

why does a football player in the NFL make more money then a high school football player? why does anyone make more then anyone else? because there better at what they do so they can paid more. if you paid for $10 of seo your going to get the quality equivalent. people that know their skill set is valuable enough to charge alot of money, do.... I charge 3 times more then most telemarketing companies and i have no shortage of business or happy clients. the worst thing you can do is discount your services because then you just told the client your not really worth what your trying to charge. in addition if your client wants you to discount your services it means they dont think your valuable enough in whitch case you need to rewind your sales pitch and sell them on the value and results of your service instead of the money.
most businessmen you deal with are pretty smart, especially if they have a marketing budget, this means they had some level of success and are now activly looking to invest money to expand their business. key word "invest" . if your seo service cost $1000 a month and statistically speaking other industries usually see X amount of boosted traffic from it and there for that converts to say 1 extra client a month and the business makes say $3000 off of that ask them. Mr._________ do you think thats a good investment or a bad investment? "Let me ask you Mr.______ are you interested in saving
$1000 or making $3000? if a 1000 dollar investment will put you out of business you need my service more then you think" with that being said if your going to sell to smart logical people you must know your numbers and average conversion rates. well thats my salesman ramble for the day hope that helped.

I'm not trying to be rude, but please take the time to write a bit better. This kind of post is very tedious to read. Paragraph changes and capital letters do help.

That's the reality. Someone will always undercut any price. Unfortunately some clients will only stare at the price tag, although most will realize that $10 gets them nothing at all. I know guys who bill $xx per month, and they've had to spend time to negotiate with clients who were unhappy with the results they were seeing. Even if the price is low the expectations can be through the roof.

There's probably some edge to your service versus the others. Maybe you're geographically close to the client, or you understand a particular niche or industry, or you speak the same language (literally or figuratively). Or something else. It's very likely that your strongest point isn't the price.

There's nothing easy about running a business. If you're starting from scratch with no existing client base it's going to be tough. I'm sorry, but I'm not particularly impressed by someone staring at computer from dawn till dusk. Do you have something to show for it? Can you already optimize a site, or build some links? Have you done so?

Did you come up with a way to communicate this to a potential client?
    Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

SEO pains me and I try to avoid it like the plague! It takes a lot of work and the results can take a long time or, never if you do not set it up right. All I can say is it was discouraging.

Some of you may argue that SEO for Google's purpose of ranking is why I need to do it.

If I remember correctly from some of the gurus, they talked about what happened when they got the Google Slap. They lost their businesses overnight.

Today, because of the Google Slap, they advise don't do SEO or don't make it your main marketing method.

I'm in a coaching program and although I got a squeeze page, blog and Facebook page Done-For-You by my coach's company, I know I will need to learn SEO for the blog. I can wait.

I am in a good place right now doing Solo Ads and learning that.
