Not ranking for extreme low comp keywords

Hi there..
About 2 months ago i bought a new domain (brand) where i started to blog about different home studies a person could follow from his home/PC.

This whole thing is an experiment by the way.
I decided instead of going for the big and competitive keywords to choose very low comp keywords.

Here is an example:
Keyword: blablabla
monthly searches: 170
competition: low (according to adwords)
keyword in-title of the first 10 results: No
keyword in-meta of the first 10 results: No

So basically a nobrainer to rank right? Well not for me apperently..
I figured .. if i want 1K visitors monthly.. i could write 10 articles on 10 keywords as the example i gave you, and they will rank easily...once that happens = 1K a month, great.. rise and repeat.

I use wordpress for this blog with Yoast SEO.. every article is 600-800 words with every single Yoast subpoint in green light.

it has been about a month since i wrote them. I also gave them social signals by sharing them and google+.. i have not done any linkbuilding further as i tought such extreme low keywords wont need much backlinks.

So now .. a month later i login to my Webmasters Tools on google and i see all pages are indexed.. i go to the Searches tab, i choose 'Positions' .. and all of my keywords are ranked like 150-190th position in google.

Wtf is this about ..

Adwords' low competition has nothing to do with SEO, everything to do with low competition in Adwords.

Your keywords, low searches and all, may be very difficult for SEO.

You can search on Google with "kw" and without. How many results?
and how does they look in term of keywords?
What's the density of kw in your articles? too low/too high...

You are good in calculation but i think you made mistake at keyword search. I am agree with DABK that Adwords' low competition has nothing to do with SEO ..

Plus you mentioned that there is No keyword in-title and meta of the first 10 results. But there are more factor affecting the competitiveness of any keyword. For example , MOZ PA/DA of top results.
Make 5-10 good backlinks of each page and go more deep in keyword search.

No backlinks. That's you're answer. Just because the keywords are low competition it doesn't mean you can rank with no backlinks. Possibly you could if you had an established site that had a lot of good backlinks already going to the home page, and you passed some of that juice to your new articles with internal linking. But you have a new site with no juice.

Get some decent backlinks to the articles.

I just posted this in another thread with a similar question....

You really need some patience here. Your site is 2 months old....8 weeks....60 days.... More than likely you aren't going to rank in that period of time. Back in 2010 or 2011? Sure, no problem. Not now.

Gary V's video is spot on in my opinion:

It's not that easy. Just be patient and stick to what you are doing.

DABK mentioned the Adwords "low competition" problem. Unfortunately your other stats are equally useless. Do you really think that Google in 2015 uses exact phrases in article titles to rank something? Of course not. They're trying to find the topics in every article, and trying to parse what the user is actually trying to say. The match is very broad which is why authoritative sites (that have more backlinks) rank for many searches even if they don't actually mention the whole keyword.

Meta keywords have nothing to do with rankings.

You should take the first ranking pages, and run them through a backlink checker of some sort. Majestic, Ahrefs, Moz... Then compare to your own articles to see where you stand. This is very rough estimate, but at least it gives you some perspective.

That part of Yoast SEO is basically a glorified checklist. It just confirms that you didn't forget to use the keywords that you chose yourself. Doesn't tell you anything about the rankings.

Posting to social media sites does nothing. You should get "followed" backlinks.

So you're targeting "studying psychology undergraduate" or something like that. There's a bunch of sites for academic institutions on the first page, and a couple of sites that can deal with that. This should answer your question.

You're not the first on WF SEO who's been trying the field of education, but it's certainly not that easy. I'd guess that many education-related keywords are dominated by these institutions that are sort of authorities and well known in real world. That often translates to being strong in SERPs.

I don't particularly trust Moz's stats, but at least install their toolbar to see some quick and rough metrics.
