Can you still build ranks without adding content?

Hey everybody. I was just wondering if you can build ranks in the search engines without adding content? Does it depend more on your domain age until you get more traffic? I already have about 80 articles and am still struggling to get any traffic to my blog. I've already had it about 9 months and I'm just wondering if the 2nd year will get better

First off, the answer is a definite no. You need content to rank even if you're using 100% black hat methods that will get your site banned in six months. There's no way around it....you have to have content. With that said, ranking is not about domain age and eighty articles is more than enough to rank. So I'm going to change my original answer and say you have to have great content to rank over existing sites, and you're obviously not there yet.

So your solution is to stop looking at it like you have eighty articles. From this moment forward, pretend you have zero...because that's what Google says you have. So focus on delivering one awesome, amazing, life changing piece of content for your readers, and then wait a few days to see how it ranks. Then rinse and repeat, and keep at it until you're solid in the rankings.

One other piece of advice; you may want to take down your 80 pages if it's poor quality. It can literally hurt more than it helps, so if a page doesn't directly help your visitors solve a problem, then it likely should not be there.

No, it's not a definite no. It's possible to rank for example a some silly web app or other page that has no "content" in any sensible meaning of the word, but that got popular. It's got title, some kind of theme, and backlinks. That's enough.

However, it's definitely easier to rank something with content. I would not even try to rank without content, and it's mind-boggling to see how many people on WF are essentially doing just that. The "without content" examples that I've recently watched have "just happened" organically because people found something funny.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

Content is needed for you to be able to rank. Also, if you're feeling frustrated with the results you are getting, check the things that you think are doing incorrectly. Modify your strategies. Do trial and error, if you must. Monitor your growth constantly. But more importantly, make sure that you are delivering high quality and interesting content to your audience.

I don't know anything about SEO. I totally suck at it.

    But guess what?

I was checking my stats earlier today...

    And check this...

I'm nearing ONE MILLION HITS for 2015.

    ONE MILLION.

I'm at > 800,000 hits so far, just on my tiny, ugly blog that Google *HATES*.

    How did I accomplish that?

Well, I've been blogging for years, and I focus on creating content that HUMANS actually like.

    Seriously.

Google gives me a pagerank of 1, and hates my domain for a multitude of reasons.

    But that doesn't matter.

Because my end users actually like it.

    ;]

    Talk later

    MD

PS: Not one million UNIQUES. (I wish, some day), one million raw hits.

Still very impressive, and I laughed to myself when I saw this.

PPS: So what's the point of all this? Create content that HUMANS actually enjoy.

If Google deems your content to be "Worthy of ranking", then good for them.

Content is only the factor to rank you well. The more quality content you write on your blog the chances are more getting ranking and also getting loyal readers as well.

Like everyone is saying, content is king. Without it your site becomes stale and goodluck trying to get ongoing links. If you're having trouble coming up with content that people actually care about...just go out and find it. Search through forums & various channels on what people want to know about - if you have the right knowledge to answer or talk about it, then do it via your blog!

Well, there are people who still thinks that content matters less than it seems. But according to what I read, hear and see the content is and will be the most required parameter of site's quality. So write, write and...write again.

While content is important in most cases, there are plenty of examples of pages that rank very highly with very little content and/or updates.

If you are not getting good results; you need to upgrade your strategies. You should write unique content. You can also make backlinks for your website. If you will analyse your articles; you'll definitely get good results.
