Hi there,

As I am learning SEO, I see a lot written about the effectiveness of contextual backlinking.

I.E Someone writes a an article/blog post on weight loss and somewhere within the article includes a link to my weight loss related site.

What are other warriors experience of this? Do the search engines really like contextual backlinks?

If so what is the most effective way of using them?

Thanks

I think that they probably eat this stuff up. And if they do not fully appreciate this, they will in the future. I think that inserting links in the keywords of an article can be very effective and appropriate in some cases.

They're very important. You want your target keywords to be the anchor text of the contextual link, ideally. If a million people link to your site using your target keyword as the anchor text, you will get great search rankings for that keyword.

You don't need a million, that's just an example.

Anchor text is very important in your backlinks. You need to use anchor text as much as possible although it's not always possible when building free links.

Make sure that for your articles you have anchor text in your bio box links

To create anchor text, you would use something like the following.....

            Code:
            <a href="http://www.yoursite.com">My keywords here</a>

You can also add a nofollow attribute to them to stop PR being passed on. This is done like this.....

            <a href="http://www.yoursite.com" rel="nofollow">My keywords here</a>

You can also get your keywords in other places such as the title attribute. This is where text will appear when you hover over the link.

            <a href="http://www.yoursite.com" title="Keyword rich description here" rel="nofollow">My keywords here</a>
You can either add an image to the code instead of using text although text is what you want to be using in order to help with your rankings.

Contextual backlinks are very powerful when placed within good content with related words naturally surrounding them.

Contextual back links are good and they do work very well in getting targeted traffic to your site, it is also good to have you anchor text on a page with related content.

You will however still get good rank in google even if you build all your links with out any thought for contextual content.

A great place to get contextual links quickly is squidoo, just find sites that have the links module on them that you can add to. easy.

Contextual backlinks are important to rank high. Important thing is while selecting anchor tag one should use LSI model there too.

I disagree - Contextual links can help you rank faster sometimes but if your links are not contextual as long as you have good anchor text with lots of links built in a natural way from high pr sites you WILL still rank well.

Saying that I like contextual links as they are from sites in my niche I am expanding my reach within my niche gaining better visability, and good rank too.

What Im saying or at least trying to say is contextual links SHOULD be part of your linking stratagy but you should know that ultimatly you do not need contextual links to rank well.

I hope that makes sense?? I know there will be plenty of people that disagree with me and thats fine please, Im very willing to listen to any ones views.

Anchor text is the key. Sometimes you could use longer anchor text which contains the keyword you're targeting.
