What is the Character Limit of Title Tag?
#limit #tag #title
  • Profile picture of the author jessikaload
Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters of a title tag, or as many characters as will fit into a 512-pixel display. If you keep your titles under 55 characters, you can expect at least 95% of your titles to display properly. Keep in mind that search engines may choose to display a different title than what you provide in your HTML. Titles in search results may be rewritten to match your brand, the user query, or other considerations.

I feel comfortable saying that 55 characters is a reasonable title-length limit under the new design, but keep in mind that your title lengths may vary quite a bit. In addition, a cut-off title isn't the kiss of death – Google still processes keywords beyond the cut-off (including for ranking purposes), and other formats, like vertical results and Google+, may display your full titles.

      There is no limit.

People are confused when they think google has a limit.

Google will show something less than 512 pixels, but even
that is up for debate. They have changed many times.
They could show anywhere between 40 and 75 "characters."

If they actually care to show your title at all, that is.

What they show has nothing to do with what they see or crawl.

Your title should never be chosen for some limit.

If you are trying to cram every variation of keywords, you are
braking up the wrong tree as well.

Put your most important words first.

Keeping your title less than some character length has nothing
to do with SEO. It's what you do WITH the title that matters.

Not longer than it has to be to be meaningful and catchy.

Think of titles that make people wanna visit your page... If you can do it in 15 characters, don't do it in 16. If you need 197 characters to do it, use 197 characters.

Like Paul said, use your most important words first.

Don't entirely use Title Case in your titles. Try to use small letters wherever needed.

This also helps in eyeballing in the SERP and better readibility

          "I Am Dilip Samuel"

          Vs

          "I am Dilip Samuel"

          The latter wins!!!

Also, small letters occupy fewer pixels and hence you could stretch the length of the Title using this strategy.
