Does the site have lots of content on it? If not, you need to get more posts or pages put up there. Gambling is a competitive niche so you should have dozens of inner pages that target different keyphrases.. Also, have you been building backlinks? If so, what type of incoming links have you been building? Consider buying or exchanging links with other gambling related sites!

The kind of advice that many of us just need to take. If you're in the position that you can find someone who wants to link your site, good for you.

    You're doing things bassakwards.

The first thing you should have done was find traffic.

So you chose one of the most brutally competitive niches. Some of the operators are not afraid to play dirty, and they've got budgets to out-SEO any newcomer.

Yukon is right, you should've had some idea about finding traffic before you got in this.

Is the site the one in your signature? There's only a few dozen of links that come from under 10 domains, and only one I can see is worth having. You seriously need backlinks, but that's not easy.

      Google for: sadarom
You will find on page #2 in top 20 sadarom.com which doesn't have any backlinks

Ah! I see you're trolling. Well played, sir.

(3rd comment from fastreplies today, my sarcasm/humor detector is still asleep.)

In case someone is confused: ranking for a phrase void of any meaning is always easy. And ranking on second page for BS keyword is not too impressive.

Does "sadarom" actually stand for something? I'm only getting Runescape stuff for my native language when I allow Google to guess, and completely random junk if I'm choosing the exact phrase.

Usually it's pretty easy to see which keywords are really competitive, but I admit that this is a bit harder. However, if this is true for any language then ranking on second page is very much a failure.

There recently was someone who'd had a development site to rank for some weird phrase that was about as meaningful as "society goat pastor garment". This user then took this as a proof of the imminent success.

              Yes, it does.
If you manage to view page, you'll find that 'sadarom'
is Russian word for 'free' or free.com

Just a reminder: there are no backlinks to that site.

Ah. So it's "za darom" (за даром) which stands for "for free". I remember hearing the word now that you explained it.

So you're ranking for a keyword that doesn't have any particular use (what for free?), and also for the less common way of transliterating it. "Zadarom" seems to bring results that at least point to russia.

Sorry, but I have to stand by my initial impression. Although the domain is pretty cool IMHO.

                  You're missing the point.
Lets say there is limited amount, only 100 sites rely on that word whereas 80 of sites
with backlinks behind it. Having that site on page #2 says laud and clear that nothing
else but keywords make or break your site's position in SERP and that is the fact.

No, I'm not. Your anecdote just isn't good, that's the point here. The stuff that I see ranking for that particular word in the form you originally wrote it is personal social media profiles and completely random junk like that. Judging by that I'd even assume that Google doesn't associate your variant of the word with the thing that you'd like. Write "zadarom", and you at least get coupon sites.

I'm not trying to deny that you can sometimes rank with almost purely by content only. Usually this happens when there's no competition, and the only competition I see for "sadarom" is bunch of people who have that as their family name. Your domain seems to be on the first page from where I look, but you've still been outranked by PA 1 social media profiles.

I've seen examples that were interesting, but there's not even anything weird going on in this case.

You don't. Unfortunately it's as simple as that. I have no clue what "overpronation" even is, but it's a popular topic. Your keyword isn't even long tail in that sense.

Just see who you're against. Runner's World, Asics x2, Nike, New Balance, Zappos x2, Runblogger, a popular Hubpages article... And I just listed those brands that I recognize as someone who's not from US.

I do not like Moz's metrics that much, but at least install Moz bar and see for yourself. The metrics can be inaccurate, but it's a ballpark figure that you can compare to your own site.

        Who, besides you, Googles that?

Or, a third and better option: You're highly confused about how Google (search engines) work, aren't you?

Do yourself a test, put up a site on blogger and rank it for
        six-pack abs
        or
        lose weight
        without backlinks.

        Or Chicago mortgage.

        Then talk.

Making my point, and you don't even know it, huh?

If you use the word 'ranking' in the sense you used it to come up with this example, all webpages Google indexes are ranking, because Google assigns them a number.

If you use the word 'ranking' in the way people who pursue SEO to make money, the normal side of the world, then, the site you mentioned is not ranking high, is it?

              Yep.

And you know what? He/she has no idea how many backlinks there even are.

That mullerconsulting dot ca has these stats on Majestic:
              External Backlinks 675
              Referring Domains 286
              TF 17, CF 14

It's a domain with fairly good metrics.

    Hi responsiblehina

For you to get more traffic you can have an SEO virtual assistant to work on it. You can go to elance or odesk to hire someone it free. You just have to register.

If you also want more traffic not just traffic but probable prospects that will be very interested in your services. Then I suggest social media marketing, use the art of social media like twitter and facebook.

As we all know everyone is on social media now.

    Thanks

As far as SEO goes what have you done on the site with regards to on page SEO?

If your site is indeed ready and has good content then you should start promoting it on social media, blogs, directories, forums ect

As many seo suggest.. CONTENT is the king. But choose careful your keywords and go dipper to find long tail phase ans create inner page for all long tail keyword first. (SILO with most hard to rank with 5 to 7 inner page with long tail) when your site full with content go to social network, media buy etc.

Note: add value to your audience by creating useful report give it for free in exit pop up.

Unfortunately that's not really "SEO help", and even finding traffic from YouTube may prove to be really hard. If your website is about gambling what possibly can you say to motivate anyone to visit it? Why'd they even watch your video?

Whoopsie. Just noticed that I didn't bring any suggestions.

First things first: see what kind of actual competition you have. Try to evaluate the sites that rank for something you'd like to rank for. Is it even possible to outrank them? The answer to that may be "no" in which case you need to think of something else. SEO doesn't work for everyone.

Do you have some kind of angle that nobody else has? Do people search for "gambling site comparison" for example?

Perhaps try to find converting traffic from somewhere else. I'm not going to do your industry research for you, but I know the biggest local gambling sites have huge advertising budgets and established brands. Perhaps try running some ads on social media sites if that's feasible. Facebook might not like gambling too much, but I'm sure one of them allows it.

Link bait. Porn sites have similar stigma to that of gambling: most people don't want to talk about it with their friends. Some of the sites have done link bait in the form of blog posts. Tell something interesting, commission a funny cartoon or whatever fits the purpose. Then advertise that content, post it to Reddit etc. This isn't easy, and might require a lot of effort to score even one moderate hit.
