  That would differ from website to website. You need to find sources relevant to your website.
  
  Find content that people like to link to and create similar but better content. Then approach the peopl who link to that content and inform them of your content. They will more than likely link to you as well.

I disagree with the last bit. You need a natural link profile, or as natural as you can get it. You need a mix of both low and high quality links.

I use the time consuming blog commenting. I do blog commenting on 5 sites each day. At the same time I spend few minutes a day on social network engaging fellow users through liking or commenting on post and tweets, somebody out there will eventually visit to check you out and its traffic.

That is a painfully tedious way to get traffic.

Dont just create good content. Find great content in your niche who people love to link to and create similar but better content.

If you you create content that is worth linking to you will automatically get more good quality links.

No. If you post something somewhere to make a link to your site, that's not a natural link. You made it yourself.

Why would someone eventually visit you? By accident? You need to plan your actions and make sure there's some clear way to get some return on the time you're investing.

It may not be such a bad idea to read blogs, and social media may help to strengthen connections to fellow entrepreneurs and potential clients. However, this is a lousy and very ineffective sales strategy, and doesn't help SEO in any way.

True successful SEO's don't think about colors. There's no Whitehat or Blackhat. There's only links that work and links that doesn't.

My favourite technique:
- Quality private blog posts mixed with more quality guest posts.
- Press release distribution for mixing up my link profile with natural links.
- Bumper sites powered with tier 2 links.

Well, what i learned, its 2015 but content is still "King" so quality content speaks itself. don't worry about search engine. focus on what people like and want to know, they will google your site name, services name etc automatically when they like you.

So you've somehow sold yourself to them already. How do these folk know your brand? You missed that part of the explanation.

I have had more success concentrating on building a Social Media presence than I ever did with SEO, I, along with many other marketers got hammered by Google updates, which is at best demoralizing when you have put so much effort into your sites. Obviously I still do SEO but it's not my main priority, I ensure my sites are filled with quality content which keeps visitors coming back. I also find Source Wave a great help to me in the ever changing world of SEO.

SEO fundamentals honestly don't change much. There is just more focus on certain things as updates are made to search algorithms. But in reality:

1. Write for humans first and then optimize for search engine spiders. Make content worth sharing.
2. Write lengthy articles. Neil Patel has shown his own stats that prove the longer your content is, the better it does in the SERPs.
3. It certainly helps to get backlinks from high quality and relevant sites in your niche. Don't be afraid to email webmasters and ask for links, but do be prepared to offer something of value like a return link or a guest post. Building relationships in the niche can help move this process along.
4. Follow on-page fundamentals with your meta info like tag, description, keywords, etc. It's also worth having a look at schema information. Do a little Google searching on schema.
5. Have multiple types of rich media on the page. A YouTube video and images with rich tags and descriptions can go a long way.

Techniques never changed, what search engines suggested from long back is "HAVE QUALITY CONTENT on your blog pointing towards users solutions/engage. Then we will rank that site. And try to acquire links NATURALLY"

One of the best ways to get strong links to your site is by getting in touch with editors for top sites. HARO is a great place to start. I have gotten links from HR Magazine, interviews with the NY Times and even links from more standard everyday blogs.

(1) Be sure that the link that is awarded is do follow

(2) Always respond to pitches using your myname@mydomain.com email. Gmail and Yahoo emails look amateurish and do not spell authority
