Na mate . . they use a tinyurl system.

Using Twitter for SEO is pointless.

This is totally optional, you can post full links if you want.

Google has been indexing Twitter heavier for a while now and Bing just added real-time Twitter tracking so although you can't edit anchor text, you can still create content related to keywords, which can drive human traffic, if not Google traffic.

And that concept, my friends, is not thought of enough.

It lets me throw up my web url and even my blog url as long as the tweet is still under 140

For those who say no, aren't thinking outside the box here.

Of course Twitter is good for SEO.

Think about it for a second.

How many people extract data from twitter to their blogs?

    HUNDREDS

    Result?

    heaps of backlinks.

    instant indexing

    need I go on.

      Agree with Askloz

Twitter has a got a bad name for being a spammers engine and IMO it probably is a bit of that but those people who say this miss a big point: It is a quick way to send a link to lots of people - especially if those people are genuine followers (rather than follow- you/follow me automatons).

Put a "Follow me on Twitter" icon on your site, make it easy for people to follow you, and then start tweet about your site.

Twitter is a great way to share links to quality content - your own or someone else's (law of reciprocity) - and ultimately get traffic to your site.

Imagine how much traffic and potential backlinks you can get if people start to retweet you...

(Of course, now that Twitter is in the offline press you wonder if its days are numbered!)
