Can affiliate links negatively affect my SEO?

I have a main site which is a blog and it does relatively well in Google. Now I want to offer my own product catalog on various topics related to my niche. I plan on setting up an affiliate program but am worried if the affiliate links point back to mysite.com/product1 it will negatively affect my sites ranking. I've done some Googling and the consensus seems to be that it won't hurt but I'm still hesitant.
  • Should I register a separate domain for the landing pages (i.e. mysitecatelog.com) specifically for affiliates to send traffic to?
  • Should I go with my own in house affiliate program vs. an affiliate network like ClickBank?

  • Would using an affiliate network such as ClickBank and pointing back to my main site have a negative effect?

Google does not hate affiliates. What they might hate is
other sites you link to. Some of those may be affiliate sites.

So it's not really affiliate links, but using affiliate pages.

If people go around promoting the same page as everyone else,
that could be a problem. I'm not sold on CB, but many swear by
    it.

The internet has little use for 1,000 pages that look the same.

Shy away from affiliate pages that are cookie-cutter.

Thanks for the quick reply Paul. I won't be linking to any affiliate sites, I'll be the product merchant and have affiliates driving traffic to my site.
